Collins is doing a damn good job at NW program that had never in their history been to the NCAA tournament. They’re, historically, a worse program than UGA is and he has at least made them somewhat relevant. He’s 88-74 at a school that is a traditional .400-level program.

Eh. This year was supposed to be their year to really breakthrough with a ton of guys coming back and they just fell flat on their faces going 15-17. I would want to see him win with expectations before trying to get him to a bigger job.

For the record, I don’t think Collins will be the one who directly follows Coach K. I really think they go with Capel as a bridge for a few (3-4) years, because no one they bring in will ever succeed following directly behind Coach K. After that, I think they look seriously at Collins and Wojo, but won’t be afraid to go after another big time coach like Stevens, Marshall, Donovan, etc.

Amaker is good at Harvard, but you wouldnt bring him to Durham from there
Amaker also rebuilt Michigan after their 90s dumpster fire. He never could get over the hump though. I want to say his Harvard success would suggest he has improved from his early career issues at UM
Amaker also has the "His wife is director of mental health program at Harvard Medical School" baggage. No guarantee he'd be willing to leave

Mike Brey? Probably the best candidate, but still, he hasnt been ground breaking at Notre Dame.
He also coaches at Notre Dame which has never been a good basketball school. Except for a stretch in the 70s, Brey accounts for nearly all of Notre Dame's success
I mean they only made 2 Sweet 16s from 1980-2000, Brey now has 8 Sweet 16s and 2 Elite 8s

Capel hasnt been a head coach in 7 years and had his ups and downs at Oklahoma.
Basically he had Blake Griffin for 2 years and then a string of average to bad years

If UGA admins have any clue in a coaching search, they should check out Steve Forbes at ETSU. The guy can flat out coach, he is a good recruiter and he is experienced in the SEC. His only baggage is toeing the party line to protect Bruce Pearl at TN, which he got unfairly blackballed over
Everywhere Forbes has shown up has had huge success in the past 15 years
- TAMU went from 7W to 20+W when he was assistant under Gillespie (Didn't go to UK w/ Gillespie and he sucked)
- TN had huge turnaround under Bruce Pearl while Forbes was there. Pearl openly talks about how important Forbes was to the TN teams
- Wichita St hires him as an assistant, seasons w Forbes are the two best seasons in Wichita St history consecutive 30+ Wins including 35-1
- Forbes as HC at ETSU goes from 15W avg previous 3 Years to winning 24W/27W/25W and likely consecutive NCAAT appearances this year

I like Forbes always have. His up tempo pace of play is what wins games this day in age. His teams tend to get more dunks and layups. I like that.

Tony Bennett would disagree, but I get what you’re saying.

Yeah... Tony Bennett will never win a N.C... he’s a nice little regular season blah blah blah... sweet 16... sprinkle in an occasional elite 8.... nothing more.

To be fair, he is more or less the anomaly. With that said... the reply was fricking ridiculous. If UGA started winning regular season conference titles, going to sweet 16s, and sprinkling in occasional elite 8s in basketball, I'm fricking ecstatic. If you are holding the basketball team to a "Natty or bust" standard, you're out of your mind...

No one is holding UGA basketball to natty or bust... with that said... frick you...

A lot of the big 10 teams (Michigan, Purdue, Wisconsin) play slow as well and have had success.
That being said, I love the idea of being a team that goes faster. Feel like that's more appealing to recruits as well. I'm fine being methodical, but our dribble, dribble, take a contested shot late in the shot clock offense is brutal to watch.

That was my point... yes you can win the 62-58 type games. It is a system though. They’re methodical and effective, but have specific players for that system. Fox isn’t any of that... His offense is archaic, out dated, and flat out disgusting. He also doesn’t know shite about recruiting... that’s evident... it’s also like the guy only gets what he can and hopes they somehow perform in his shitshow... I’m over it... good riddance.

Agree with all of this. As to the B1G teams, I think they tend to be a little less consistent and heavily dependent on upperclass leadership/experience. UVA seems to maintain the same type of performance as classes roll out.

Anyone else going to be at the game tonight?

An ex UGA player’s son is on the Harvard team.

Tony Bennett's UVA teams do as well as could reasonably be hoped without recruiting at an extremely high level. Tournament games aren't any different than regular games. You can win going slow just like you can going fast. You "just" have to play at a very high level.

Good start.....per usual. Maten is a beast. Has a 3 and 2 assists with our 7 points....lol
ETA: 2 3 pointers of our 10-0 lead

In the last 3 years, they've been 2nd round, Sweet 16, Elite Eight, and was a 1 seed twice (and will be again this year). You're telling me you wouldn't take that at Georgia?
