They choked in Baton Rouge and then Kirby "Fake Punt" Smart's poor in-game decision making led to another instance of "we should have won that game" in the SEC CG.

We would certainly have been a stronger opponent for Clemson. But knowing how to close out big games matters.

The talent will be there in 2019 but will Smart show he's learned some lessons?

Don't blow the fourth quarter against Alabama next time then, guys. I believe this is the second best team in college football but gagging away the SECCG meant that they left their fate in someone else's hands.

They better come out and dominate Texas....gonna look fricking dumb if they chirp abt how we should have been in the playoffs and then lose to a mid tier big 12 team.

Better get ready to eat.

Tell it to Kirby. The loss was 100% on him.

The fact that Kirby defended his moronic decision was more discouraging than the decision itself. Don't expect a lesson to be learned.

Whether or not Kirby can improve as a game day coach will determine if next year is our national title year or if we are scrapping to win the division.

I do worry that he's a stubborn sumbitch. Let's hope it was just pride and that he secretly knows when he's fricked up.

If not, his growth as a head coach will be limited.

I will bite.

The game was tied. 3+ minutes to go. Bama had a mobile QB and 4 downs to play with to get 3 points. They just marched at will against us the prior drive.

We were not stopping their offense with 3 minutes on the clock (the entire run/pass playbook being open to them). Pushing them back 24 yards on a punt wasn't going to make a difference. They sliced us up in 5 plays and just over a minute (in reality, 24 more yards would have drained more clock).

Our hope was that they fumble the punt. Or we don't give them the football. We opted for the latter.

The play was a pass to our NFL running back against man coverage from a linebacker. The throw was to come from our "all everything" talent at QB. Swift against man coverage in a punt safe? There are high school QBs in Georgia that I would trust with that play call. One of the big pluses against tight coverage would be a PI call.

I'm fine with the playcall. We definitely need to get better execution on these designs. The snap should have been out quicker. Tucking the football should never have been an option (the hope of a defensive penalty being the reason).

There are other playcalls to question (fake against LSU was pointless. LsU's offense is not a juggernaut and there was no point to press at that juncture of the game)

It was talent and coaching. We dont have the depth in the front 7 (compare us to last season ). View the Bama highlights and see who got picked on. We were asking 3 stars to hold up against Bama for 4 quarters.

The great news in 2019 is that our defensive recruiting should have fixed the issues on the front 7. And we have Kirby's kids for the first time as upper-classmen.

Not sure I can buy that as a legitimate excuse. There's not that many 3 stars on this team. The defense dominated most of the game. The simple fact is the offense once again disappeared in the last 20 minutes and the defense tired just like the national championship game. A defense, no matter how talented or deep is going to stay fresh against a team like Bama if your offense does nothing for 20 minutes.

Link a big run from Bama and look who got abused. Link their key passes and see what DB was targeted. Go ahead.

We've got about eight 3 stars out there getting significant reps. Granted, three of them are studs. But that leaves big play opportunities for a team as talented as Bama against the others.

This was a reload year. The personnel on D will be much different next season with the last 2 recruiting classes.

We aren't talent deficient on offense.

Play calling and execution. The OL needed to play better, even (pressure getting in Fromm's face with and without the blitz). The only hope is that another year s&c and the coaching can help there. Better luck in the health department, too. But I'm not expecting that. We have a gauntlet next year and we will have bumps and bruises.

Alabama has a 10 year head start on UGA in respect to doing things the right way. Depth, S&C, coaching. We are getting there we just need a little more time.

The OL played great from my vantage point. OL play was hardly the problem. A defense like Bama is going to your QB from time to time. Fromm had a clean pocket most of the night.

Their DL is credited with 18 tackles (3 for loss). That is a lot on the DL.
For comparison, we were credited with 9 tackles from our DL with 1 tackle for a loss.

I will have to watch the game again to count tips at the line or pressures that broke through.

This. In Year 3 we have hung with them in 2 consecutive title games, even with their 10 year head start (which Kirby contributed to).

My concern is his not learning from his own coaching mistakes and Clock management, more than personnel.

The players have the right to be salty. The losses were 100% on Smart. The LSU game looked like a retard trying to frick a door knob. End around, Flee flicker, fake FG in the fricking first QT only down 3. All the while almost averaging 7 yards a carry.
