Go get Ron Hunter from Georgia State. I think he would be a better hire anyways.

Matta probably wants an easier gig.

Matta isn’t going to take a job. I think he has to interview to keep his pay from OSU coming. I would be shocked if he takes a job this year.

At this point we need to be all in on Crean. He was gonna be a home run hire to me anyway before we had visions of the grand slam hire in Matta.

All those years of watching UT and others land their 4th or 5th choice is going to be us in basketball. Lol

Matta also was having a hard time sitting down a couple years ago. His back issues, if not taken care of are a serious deal. I was hopeful they were a thing of the past, and they might be, but at the same time if he wanted to coach, he easily could have found a job last year as well. Crean doesn't have the back issues, and I'm sure will coach somewhere this upcoming season.

eh, way too early to say. Not to mention UT in reality probably settled for their like 8th or 9th choice...after actually having hired a decent coach before public backlash on the internet made them reverse their decision. I doubt we would ever be in such an embarrassing position.

I'm still reeling, feels like a kick to the gut..but the reality is we've only gone after 1 guy, who was a swing for the fences hire anyway, and lost him at the 11th hour. We're 0/1 and have plenty of options left. And that 1 wasn't even really considered possible just a few weeks ago.

Either he still has health concerns (in which case this is good for both parties)........or frick him otherwise.

Glad that Matta was honest with us. Said that he still wasn't 100 percent ready to get back into it. Burnout is real. Especially when you have a fricked up back. The consensus was that he became a lazy recruiter in his last few years at Ohio State. One of the beat writer goobers there pulled his road trip log.

I say go with Ron Hunter. Recruit metro Atlanta and see what happens.

Pretty surprised he wasn't blown away by the tour. A real basketball guy wouldn't hesitate to take a job here.

This thread is excellent.

Crean would be a special kind of hell for UGA fans. He recruits well...but local coaches end up hating him so all of the talent he snags comes from out of his region.

Terrible defensive coach.

Develops under the radar types but never seems to get the most out of superstars.

In the end, he’s too inconsistent and never built anything sustained at Marquette or IU.

Matta is worse. Had a higher ceiling but he quit while on the job at OSU. Only reason OSU was decent this year was that they stashed 2 absolute studs on the roster and never developed them. Once Holtmann came in, Tate and Bates Diop looked like the kids they were projected to be.

OSU won’t be great next year as Matta did a terrible job of recruiting his last 3 years there.

As a CBB first guy...Ron Hunter is your man. Recruits well at his level. Wins big games. Has had as many tourney appearances in 5 years in a 1 bid league as fox did in 9 years in a 6+ bid league.

He’s not gunna win a natty, but he’s definitely compete in conference.
