He’s played all season with an undisclosed rib injury. That’s part of why he’s shutting it down.

Had an average year because of it. Certain games he just wasn’t right. His stats last year were incredible and took a big step back this year vs what was actually a slightly worse schedule. As a Purdue fan, I’m fine with him skipping the game.

Our backup QBs are terrible, Brian Brohm and a whole bunch of coaches who no longer want to be there are stuck in town coaching this game. I think this will be a 63-7 type disaster for us with basically our top 6 players missing.

Of course, I say that and we could be 100% fine. We were down 7 starters last year including 2 all Americans and beat Tennessee.
I’m not psyched about this matchup as a Purdue fan. I know that our Top WR won’t play as he’s very banged up on the year. Our QB unlikely to play too as he’s had a rib injury that has lingered most of the year and he’ll want to be combine ready. Top OL decided out of nowhere to transfer today too. Not looking good for us right now.

Add in that we might be down a head coach, this one could be ugly.

I’m a UGA grad. Purdue fan by birth. Was a student during the Felton years.

I think the team is very talented. Not talented enough to overcome the complete lack of defense this coach teaches.

I’m not a fan of Crean. He’s just flat out not an elite coach. My choice was always Ron hunter from State. It’s not a sexy splash but the dude is a good coach, decent recruiter and could have set up the program for some sustained success.

Crean is a snake oil salesman. He’ll get some great players but he also got blackballed from Indiana High Schools late in his IU tenure because of his recruiting lies and screwing over players. IU is still pretty awful 3 years removed from Crean. Not that I mind, but I don’t want him to do that same level of damage to this program.

I know recruiting nattys are all the rage in football, but in basketball if you can’t develop guys, the star rankings next to their name don’t mean shite.

Yes

No

This is textbook Crean. Teams show up with no pulse....and didn't play a lick of D the entire game. Sure, this is a lesson learned....but one that was learned yesterday and will be repeatedly learned this season. Over and over and over.

Going to get old real quick...
This whole thread is just chugging that kool-aid.

There’s a reason his nickname is Clappy the clown. Can’t wait to get this dude the hell out of Athens.

You must have missed the hip check during the shot...

It was a good call. The guy had the opportunity to go straight up and not foul. Instead he ran at him and made contact.

The fear of UF is real in UG fans, First, Mullen can't coach, Second Mullen cant recruit.
First year, offense improved to #22 in the nation from the 100s under McElwain. Recruiting class currently #11 with 2 more 4 stars yet to commit.
First year final poll rankings, #7 in the AP, #6 in the coaches poll. I understand the fear, we coming.

It’s a shame that the BOT hasn’t taken this into consideration

for real? From a guy who's team has had to play transfer scraps at QB the last 3 years?

Redhead. Perky tits. No gag reflex. Had this market cornered in 2004

But everybody has a type....

I appreciate his loyalty.

I think the days are over of guys job hopping to similar level jobs (or even slightly better) for a few extra bucks. Guys aren't wanting to leave programs they've put 2-3-4 years of blood, sweat and tears for to risk getting jettisoned by an unrealistic and crazy fan base.

Brown will eventually make a jump. None of the openings this time around were worth a crap. He’ll leave at some point and for a good opp.

Purdue would have paid him $3.5M+ if we had lost Brohm. With a fat assistants pool, upgraded facilities and a roster to build on he’d have had every chance to be successful. Why not wait for something like that...or better?

What does “Complete football autonomy” mean? How many ADs who stay employed are hands on with football?

Hold on to the past, any way you can.

I would guess that some Purdue folks were underwhelmed with Brohms' hiring a couple of years ago too, especially since he had limited experience in P5 coaching

Naw dawg. Because of our identity and QB history I thought it was the absolute best hire we could make. Brohm still has work to do but he’s an 8-4 record next year away from being the Patron Saint of the school.

If you were actively trying, the NCAA would have continued to take more interest in the past goings on. This was the only way to come out on the other side with a program.

wow. seems like a pretty genuine dude. will be interesting if an elite job comes up and he gets an offer.

I hear we offered 4.5, he countered with 5 and we went to 5.2 with some pretty strict buyout stuff for the next 3 years....basically locking him in GUS BUS style.

If money isn't an issue and a guy is recruiting VERY well....with the chance to recruit even better...why is everybody so sure a guy is going to jump at the first whiff of an "elite" offer?

What if you plateau at Purdue....the worst that happens to you is that you get to keep coaching for $5Million a year at a P5 school. What happens if you plateau or even have just 1 down year at an elite? Answer....you aren't a HC anymore.
