At this point we're basically putting the ball in his court and forcing his hand. He burned UGA once before. If he does it again, he will likely have next to no shot at the UGA HC job when it opens (fool me once, etc.)

I agree with your observation and the only thing I can think of is a) gives you a chance to be one of the top choices to replace CMR when he leaves; b) fear of what's going on at Bama with Kiffen Olgeron, etc. There's obviously some internal shuffling going on there.
Also, the flip side of your question is if he was that close to pulling the trigger 4 years ago (which by all accounts he was) and making a lateral move with CMR on the hot seat and all the other crap going on...why wouldn't he now and get an inside track for the HC job?

I like that they are forcing his hand...but remember the master puppeteer Saban still has his blood sucker in Smart...he is the real reason Smart backed out last time. So do you guys honestly thing it will be enough? Boy I hope so. Thanks to all this buzz, any hire not named Smart will be a disappointment.
