I’d like to bring back Ole Miss. We’d played them every year from 66 to 02

Yep that was fun. Does anyone know why we went from 2 permanent cross-division opponents from 92-02 but dropped down to just 1 after that?

Dude, UGA vs Tennessee has been a rivalry long before the SEC went East and West

Dude.

You should know better than to think this.

Rotating opponents more frequently.

It was 10 years in the 5-2-1 format.

Three permanent rivals is a good thing, I just hope they try to make it somewhat even.

The teams we have played the most are

1. Auburn
2. Florida
3. Vanderbilt
4. Kentucky
5. South Carolina

The first two are obvious, but I would like Nashville or Lexington just because they are more desirable road trips. South Carolina should get Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri.

My guess is the "protected triangle" from the old days was UK / VU / UK. Dudley was from KY and wound up at VU where he started the SIAA

No idea why this would prevent UT from scheduling UGA for over 3 decades once the SEC was formed and there was no problem with them scheduling GT over the same period.

There was no set schedule or rotation back then.A AD or coach just had to pick up the phone and agree to a contact.

With 16 teams.. really the 6-3 model is the cleaner model., you play 3 teams home-home twice in 4 years, you play a home-home with the other 12 once in 4 years. You really can’t schedule it cleaner and faster than that.

Again, going back to the time, the Bumbles was the better program nationally and would have been the bigger draw. Like Tulane being the bigger deal in LA and Vanderbilt being a football powerhouse in the early days. Could be a access thing as well. Cars and good roads were not the norm and trains were the travel options before planes. The Sugar Bowl was built for Tulane, not LSU and Atlanta would have easier travel access than Athens.

Big part of the SEC and ACC splitting from the SoCon had do more with the mountains and travel options than anything else.

I doubt anyone really wants Missouri other than Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Nashville has become a very popular road trip for Dawgs. Lexington and Knoxville are also good ones. Columbia not so much. I have some friends in Columbia but other than good bbq I could take it or leave it.

I’m sure they’ll be paired with Oklahoma (old Big 8/Big XII rivals) and probably Arkansas. The last one will be a toss-up between Kentucky and South Carolina

Not sure Kentucky or Vanderbilt want them either as fixed opponents but I can see them getting stuck with them. UK and LSU had more history but with then the Cocks and Hogs got added UK lost LSU for State.

If they stuck with history the UK / UT / VU triangle would be preserved for all 3 with 1 add each to make 3 total

UT would get Alabama for 3
VU would get Ole Miss for 3
UK would get UGA for 3

I doubt, however, this is how it will go down.

They werent the better program in the 40's or the 60's and 70's and they played more times in the 1920's than those 3 decades.

Apparently not an access issue in the 1920's and UGA had no problem traveling
to Lexington, Tuscaloosa,Stillwater,Miami or Baton Rouge in the 30's,40's and 50's

As far as scheduling better SEC or national programs,UT had no issue with playing the Mississippi schools or Auburn during that time period.

Perhaps just a scheduling quirk for both sides during those decades but still very odd.
