This. Mike Norvell got COVID and Florida Sate kept playing. Unless a bunch of players and coaches test positive the game should go on. It sucks for Alabama but it is what it is in today’s world.

Everyone always overreacts in the first few minutes/hours after news breaks. There simply is no reason right now to assume any change to thsi weekend's game.

the game even happens at all now, would be the most Georgia thing to do...win and Kirby still not get to count it as the first assistant to beat Saban.

Well that still beats losing and looking like assholes again.

From what I've been told it all depends on the league's response for contact tracing.

He's obviously been around the team so we're screwed if they rule anyone out.

ETA: I mean we're screwed as fans. Not Alabama. I hope they still play.

Yeah, it's a joke pointing to the overreaction of something that 99.7% of people survive.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Not directing this at you specifically, because people have been saying thing as long as I've been alive about [insert opponent at the time], but this is the most unfathomably stupid take I can imagine. Beyond imagination actually. It's about one of the dumbest things you can possible think in a situation like this.

Should we lose (like we often do in these "I sure hope they're at full strength!" games) do you feel better about yourself or have some kind of high ground because we lost at full strength? When we beat teams that have guys injured do you sulk the next day because they weren't at their best?

A win is a fricking win, and 20 years from now the record books aren't going to have an asterisk by the game denoting that a coach was sick during it.

I'll try to address your points and explain why I think you're wrong.

1. It's not "stupid" or "dumb" to want to overcome what has been your Achilles heel. Have some pride.
To be the man, you've got to beat the man.
2. I never feel good about a loss, but I do recognize that some victories are sweeter than others. Injuries, however, are part of the game. Covid is not.
3. A win is not a win. There are thousands of sports victories with an asterisk by them and you can guaran-damn-tee there will be one if the first time Saban loses to one of his former assistants, he wasn't even on the field.

I guess I just have an old-fashioned sense of what constitutes honorable competition and would rather punch a bully in the face than kick him when he's down. I'm legitimately sad to see ideals like these fall by the wayside.

I hope I made sense in trying to explain my point of view without coming off the wrong way. Anyway, Go Dawgs!

I can only imagine that it wouldn’t take much Covid to seriously affect someone as old and small as he is. Hope he gets better soon.

That being said, I'd rather have the game postponed than play without him coaching on the sidelines. I don't want any excuses when the Dawgs finally break through that wall and beat bama.

bullshite. It'll still be Saban's team. He said yesterday he would still have Zoom meetings with players and coaches. I remember when we lost a kazillion OL and recruited fat tuba players from the band to watch blitzers sack our QB. No team we played put an asterisk by their win over us.

Our achilles heel has been bama. Beating bama counts just the same if their coach is on the sideline or not.

Right, which again a win over bama counts the same regardless.

2. I never feel good about a loss, but I do recognize that some victories are sweeter than others.

Sure some are sweeter, not denying that. And if a UGA fan was given genie powers to create an ideal scenario I'm sure that we would play them with them on all cylinders but we still mudstomp em anyway. That's not reality though. Reality is, our chances of winning go up if they are weaker. That's simply common sense.

Injuries, however, are part of the game. Covid is not.

Idk if you took a nap in March and just now woke up but in 2020 covid is very much a part of the game. It sucks, and it's ridiculous, but it's something every team in every converence has to deal with and plan around.

3. A win is not a win. There are thousands of sports victories with an asterisk by them

There are zero wins with an asterisk. Only butthurt fans with excuses put an asterisk by games or play the woulda coulda shoulda game on message boards in the folloiwng weeks. The record books and the standings only show a win or a loss. Do you think Florida fans sit around and say "beating UGA in 05 when they won the SEC sure was cool, but MAN I wish DJ shockley had played that day :(" or do you think the bama football offices hide the 09 title trophy since colt mccoy wennt out in the first quarter? Most casual football fans probably don't even remember that or know it happened at this point, so who cares?

LOL. By who? Seriously, is the NCAA record book going to put an asterisk by the game? The SEC offices?

quote:

I guess I just have an old-fashioned sense of what constitutes honorable competition

What exactly is dishonorable about out position this weekend? We didn't poison the guy. We didn't intentionally hurt one of their players. This is no different than is we were to play in December and saban came down wiht a nasty flu bug. It has nothing to do with our honor.

quote:

would rather punch a bully in the face than kick him when he's down

YOu make it sound like half their team is out. One guy on the sidelines won't be there, I assure you the players on the field are going to try just as hard. Do you think bama fans feel bad that Deandre Walker and Sony Michel were hurt in the 2nd half of the title game? Do you think they feel bad that we had no DL subs and were down to like 50something players in '12? Of course not.

I GET your mindset, it's not like it's lost on me. I just think it's incredibly illogical. Think back to the '12, '15, '17, '18 losses to bama. When walking out of hte stadium of each if a genie said "hey, you wanna beat these guys the next time you play?" would you really sit there and say "well, yes...BuUuUuUtTtT ONLY if they are full strength!" Of course you wouldn't (at least I fricking hope you wouldn't). You would say "yes! yes! A million times yes!"

In 2020, COVID is very much part of the game. Suggesting otherwise is illogical.

FSU played the week that Mike Norvell tested positive. If they can play, we can.

The only thing that doesn’t surprise me about Saban’s most recent negative covid test is that it wasn’t received during half time of the game. Saban comes running out of the tunnel and takes over for Sark and then they come from behind again.

960 the ref is saying he now tested negative today. The SEC testing showed all negatives, but Bamas in house tests showed a positive earlier this week.
