Defined as a good QB. Your expectations for dwan 2020 were way off.

I didn’t expect him to be good. You’re putting words in my mouth.

I did expect him to be better than he is currently. There’s a lot of room between that and good.

Any ideas why Beck would be considering a transfer?

1. Feels like he hasn’t gotten a chance even with the bad QB play?

2. Not meshing with the new OC?

3. Feels like he was recruited over with the transfer QB’s or Vandagriff?

I heard he was already thinking about it before the Arkansas game. Something about being told he would be the starter when he was being recruited. I don't have any real connections...just happen to live in Jacksonville and know a guy that knows the guy. It could be complete bullshite.

That sounds ridiculous. I don't doubt you as the messenger, but I find it hard to believe.

FWIW, re: Beck, Dasher basically hinted he has looked like hot garbage and BVG would be the default choice in 2021 between the two of them.

Hence the whole it could be complete bullshite thing. I trust the guy that told me. He wouldn't have any reason to make it up. However...Beck is a kid so his interpretation of what Kirby and Co said to him is probably not exactly what happened.

Shortly after. He knew they were going after Stroud and others before he signed.

that's a hell of a thing to hint, how exactly do you hint something like that?

"Today at the media viewing session, Beck was, um, let's say it rhymes with Lot Barbage?"

It was a couple of different posts. But he essentially doesn't see him as an SEC player. Said he doesn't expect him to ever start for Georgia.

Hot garbage may have been a little strong. But keep in mind this kid is a Freshman. He doesn't seem to think he has the potential to even develop...

I'd imagine it to be something in this arena:

K: "Just look at our depth chart, a walk on converted to scholarship and a guy who had brain surgery and we're not sure if he'll ever play - if Jake leaves early which we expect, you could be starting for us as soon as next year"

Beck: "He said I would start..."

Smart and company evaluated and signed Eerybody in question. They missed the mark by a WIDE margin no matter what. When Fromm stayed in the 2018 LSU game the wheels were set in motion. We fricked up the transfer market. For whatever reason. Newman ain’t here, Daniels ain’t seen a snap. Mathis is not a power 5 QB. Bennett sure as hell ain’t and Beck is, apparently, not as good as either. What about any of this is not Kirbys decision making????

Couple this with WRs who wouldn’t start elsewhere in the SEC, offensive line play that has underwhelmed more than not despite talent up the arse and a defense that looks great against shitty teams but can’t stay on the field with good ones and you have summed up the 5 years Smart has been here. 2017 was GREAT. It’s 3 years ago. UF has a pulse. We now have an opponent in the East at or near our talent level with better coaching. The writing is on the wall.

I agree in principle one should show well in practice to get snaps but somme guys simply perform when the light are on.

Kirby has an inability to properly choose the proper QB1. Happened with Fromm vs Eason, happened with Fromm vs Fields, happening with whatever monstrosity we have now.

Why pay a guy like Monken two million to not make decisions for the offense. If you can't trust a guy that's proven himself at all levels, who can you trust to run your offense. It's very difficult to make changes when you give one guy the GM, Owner, HC tag.

I’m standing pat if you mean making a coaching change. Smart has earned some capital but it’s dwindling fast. I would remind Smart that with the resources he has been given the results are merely adequate. I am definitely not saying Smart ain’t the dude only that he is not the dude yet and it is looking like he may never be anything other than a recruiter and a defensive coordinator.

but you said "the writing is on the wall" so what exactly does that mean? That's typically when leaders start to make changes.

Do you really trust Kirby to make this call at QB?
Yep, because he sees and knows more than we do.

CKS is an excellent recruiter. No one disputes this. In fact, it's one of his greatest strengths as a coach. Are you going to say he is a poor judge of talent at QB?

quote:

Even if you believe he handled the Fromm/Fields deal correctly (which I do not), the current state of the QB room calls his or his staff’s competence to judge a QB’s ability into serious question.
How so? We had an elite backup and potential future of our program jet out because the transfer portal turned into a Santa Clause, distributing gifts of eligibility left and right. We had a potential backup of Mathis have an unexpected brain surgery months after arriving on campus and causing him to miss a year of development. We had our starting QB leave a season early, throwing a wrench into everything with Mathis out. We then picked up an excellent transfer QB who was a great fit for our new offensive direction and who subsequently quit weeks before the first game. We picked up Daniels as a backup but he was still recovering from his injury and has missed a year of development, as well.

Mathis is still green. Daniels is... I don't know what's up with him but he was supposed to be a solid pickup for us, and Beck is new and I don't think he's ready for the spotlight.

Everything's jacked up with our QBs right now and I don't blame CKS for it. It's bad timing and bad luck (providence).
