It should be no different than alcohol or tobacco, consiering those are far deadlier and worse drains on society than marijuana. Set a minimum age limit, let the govt regulate and tax it, sell it in stores after checking ID. Easy enough.

is there a medical need to chug beer or smoke cigs? Are you in favor of making both of those illegal?

No offense, but do you have a link to support those stats and a corroborating medical opinion? I smoked pot in my college years and I can safely tell you that it not only did in not enhance my mental or physical performance in any way but rather was definitely a net negative in terms producing the classic smokers cough, memory lapse, extreme munchies and general laid back/couch potato attitude.

Cannabis is good for your brain. Cannabis can help protect your brain and regrow brain cells after a concussion. It is even shown that cannabis smokers can even have a higher lung capacity than non smokers. Cannabis doesn't cause lung cancer either, in fact there is a lot of evidence in it curing cancer. Sure smoking cannabis isn't as good for you as vaporizing it, eating it, or juicing a live plant, but we can't expect our college athletes to grow the plant and juice it for all the nutritional benefits.

that's from a former nixon policy advisor. Basically way back in the old days the "system" wanted to go after minorities so they used that darn hippie reefer as their means. If america not only has no issues with alcohol but celebrates, advertises, pushes, and urges us to consume it...then there isn't one single valid reason marijuana should be an arrestable offense. None. And anyone who disagrees just has their head in the sand.
Actually it goes back even further, but you are right in that racism was a huge part in it. Popular mechanics in 1937 predicted Hemp, which is what everyone referred to it as back then, as the number 1 cash crop, projected as a billion dollar crop. Later that year they made marijuana illegal. They used the term marijuana to make it seem like the Mexicans were the ones bringing in this 'drug' when in reality all the white folks were using it but calling it hemp.

Racism wasn't the only reason why it was made illegal, as you can guess $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ had a big part of it. It has been said that DuPont was projected to lose a ton of money because of the future hemp boom, thanks to the new invention which would make the processing of hemp easier thus profitable, similar to the cotton gin for cotton. It goes deeper than just DuPont, although they seem to be a big player in this game as well.

Plus the Gov't did some research on it in the 70's and they were looking for scientific data to justify keeping it illegal, but what they found out was how great of a medicine it truly is. It was also during this time when they established the LD50 of cannabis, but most agree that the only reason why the monkeys died from it, was from the lack of oxygen, and no human or animal could ever smoke that much without having to be restrained and have the smoked forced into your lungs, like with these monkeys. Also it has been calculated by some, that water is so and so many times deadlier to you than cannabis, which is really saying something on the safety of it.

I agree. They should just go to the dr and get prescribe pain pills (opiates) since they play football, then say they get anxiety to get some xanax or say they get tired all the time to score some adderal. Thats probably what they should do as it is legal then.

The legalize weed people are the worst. I knew they'd all be in here virtue signaling and telling us all how enlightened they are on the super trendy weed issue.

I agree it should be decriminalized like all drugs. It's just bizarre how people seem to put so much importance on this one freedom issue but could care less about issues a zillion times more important.

Yeah, but if you've got good weed, all the other issues don't matter, so why worry about 'em?

How much of the cool dudery obsession with weed in the first place, do you think is actually because it's illegal though? I'd say at least 80-90%

I don't care how anyone gets high, but why do pot people go to such extremes to let everyone else know how cool they are for doing it? Some kids actually go off to college and change their haircut and bathing-frequency intervals and clothes..once they've tried it...just to show the world, they like weed. And weed is cool. Weed! Weed! Weed!

Grow up dorks

Do you realize how many college athletes take opiates?

There's a reason former college athletes get addicted to heroin at high rates.

That takes too much effort and is not what they'd do more than likely. How about not seek the high to begin with. GTFOH with that "I'm in pain from football so I need it" BS. They just want to get high... period. It is also glamorized. Just don't do it. Drink a beer or something else legal and don't jeopardize your scholly.

I can tell you without doubt that Doc E gave us Motrin 800 and oxycodone 10. I ate a ton of those after my knee and shoulder surgeries. Not sure if I was addicted, but I ate a lot for a long time til they fricked up my stomach. I don't think he thought he was doing wrong. I have the utmost respect for him. Different times...full disclosure, those scrips went way beyond UGA.

Didn't William Randolph Hearst see hemp crops as a threat to his paper dynasty and he used his influence to criminalize it?

The Free the Weed crowd really is one o the most aggravating interest groups out there, though. I'm all for the age limit, tax, retail availability of it, on account of the sheer Constitutionality of it, what with that pesky Tenth Amendment, and all, but potheads in and of themselves can frick off. Your music sucks.

Yes...there are other means the team doc can prescribe and help if there is an actual pain management issue. They aren't smoking it because they have pain. Call it what it is, they smoke it because they grew up around it, they like the high and it is glamorized. They don't smoke it because it helps with pain management. They'd be smoking it even if they didn't have pain. Until it is legalized, just don't do it--that's my point. This is not hard.
