I'd have to go with Depalmas. It used to be my favorite restaurant in Athens and now I only go when out of town visitors insist on it.
The nice thing about Last Resort is it hasn't changed in the 25 years i've lived here. It's consistently very good. Damn those cake slices! But the waits are annoying and I agree with the notion that people need to try some of the surrounding spots (like 5 bar or the Place).
Trapeze has quietly become a town favorite. That place is always full.
Mama's boy is ok. Solid breakfast but probably not worth the consistent 45 min waits. Service seems alright to me.
My money is on Five Points for eating these days. I'm talking 12 good restaurants clustered right together and right up the street from my house.

Marker 7 exceeded my expectations at 5 points.

Flying Buffalo was after…not there that I know of. The phase after those was Lowerys and O’Malleys. Worked with some guys from TK and Flying Buffalos …some amazing stories.
There was a dude who played a lot at that place. Did acoustic covers of Dead songs, etc. The was a decent sized black dude who was the bouncer. The wings were decent and it was cheap.

That is one embarrassingly long refractory period.

I haven’t really had a miss at a 5 Points restaurant yet. That’s not to say every place is good all the time but El Barrio, Sakura, The Pine, Grindhouse, Marker 7, Expat, and Royal Peasant have all met or exceeded expectations when I’ve gone. Haven’t tried Local 706 or Fully Loaded yet

Pretty much the definition of overrated I'd say! Not saying it is bad... it's not.. just people go crazy over it
I do enjoy this thread though - might have to drag my family to Little Italy on Saturday now because of it

Actually, the most over rated, ever… was the McWhorter Hall “Training Table”. The food sucked. That dude must have had pics of Dooley.
It got better in the 90s

Was that older dude that was kinda fruity still running it? The one who seemed to be tight with Coach Dooley?

Springhouse did their ribs with a dry rub. I would say they are best ive ever had, but i dont think ive ever had dry rub ribs anywhere else. They were incredible though. And on Sundays, it was all u can eat.
Is the original Locos deli still standing? I lived off that place for lunch. How about Peking? They brought out a pitcher of hot tea with tiny porcelain cups when you sat down and the hot mustard sauce had smelling salts blended in. shite would fry your sinuses and water your eyes. I think there was a fountain in the lobby

Thats right… Springhouse. It was good.
You could have soup, salad , and General Tso chicken at Peking for $5. My redhead from Lashithole always liked that place.

The new manager was a black lady and she was on point. I was there during camp as a kid from 88-96 and she was always out asking the campers and coaches if everything was good.

I don't know about over-rated but I feel like a lot of the great local restaurants with cheap eats closed like Sons of Italy, Steverinos, Compadres, Rocky's pizza, Akim's Kbob, that Mexican that used to be on Broad street, the Chinse place downtown, etc. Lot of the stuff that replaced them are mediocre and then a lot of national chains moved in. If we are going to a game we usually stop for Chic-Fila for breakfast then get a hot dog at the game. My nephew took me to Chops and Hops in Watkinsville and I thought it was pretty average.
