I have no solid source but I am seeing a LOT (inordinate amounts) of chatter that Dan Lanning is halfway out the door to rejoin bama after their recent exodus of coaches.

I’m a “where there is smoke there is fire” kind of guy as far as rumors. Even if they wind up very off.

Has anyone else heard any talk of this?

I haven’t heard anything yet. I think he only spent 1 year at Bama as a GA, and has spent far more time with Kirby than he has under Saban. I’d be surprised if he took a lateral move to Bama.

Wouldn't make sense to make a lateral move unless he is unhappy for some reason. His next job should be HC and I'm not sure if going to Bama will change his prospects much. I'm sure Saban is trying to grab him but that doesn't mean it'll go anywhere. Crazier things have happened though.

Just remember we have Muschamp basically in our back pocket at the moment.

It’s funny you say that. That was the other half of it was that Muschamp was to step in. I just wanted to keep it from being to wild since I had nothing tangible.

The lateral move part seems odd to me too so my guy wants to throw it out.

For the amount of talent and experience we had this season, the defense was very underwhelming statistically.

If true I’d gladly take Muschamp as DC

While true, don't let statistics fool you. Going forward we will see defensive statistics go through the roof. At lest for the foreseeable future. Offenses are just opening up, and until the fesnes catch up stats will continue to worsen. When I sayu worsen that doesn't mean the defenses will be bad. It just means relative to what we have been used to they will be worse.

The key is the better the defense to more they will be able to slow down opposing offenses. The stats will look gaudy, but the defenses will still be very good.

I'll pass on Muschamp. Too much drama with him.

Seeing there is now rumors of Coach schu being discussed as a candidate for the DC job at LSU. Would hurt to lose him.

#1 against the run (for the second straight year, mind you) is underwhelming statistically? I'd guess our defense against the pass may have regressed, but not by a whole lot.

People still remember the days when defenses would average giving up 250 yds and 14 points. Those days are gone. Offenses are explosive and big plays have become common place.

On 247 site there are threads stating he is an option for the Texas & LSU DC spot as well

7 upvotes? Wow

We finished 12th overall and 1st in rushing defense nationally and this was
without our best DL and DB half of the season.

would not make sense to join either of those programs. LSU is a dumpster fire at the moment and Texas is trapped in a cycle of mediocracy. Should just stay at UGA for one more year and find a HC job.

That's a hard pass. There's a reason Boom never made it to Athens.

Yeah, but how cool would it be to see a coach actually explode on the sideline? Dude needs to calm down a bit.

He’s a great DC and recruiter as well as a UGA grad so I’ll take him anyday at UGA. Also Kirby could stop micromanaging the Defense and focus on the whole program. I think he would be a good hire as DC

If one of those teams throws 1.5 mil at him, it would be hard not to at least listen.
