Absolutely this. The day after the SECCG literally begins the recruiting dead period, and it will last through the end of the CFP. No reason to get worried about recruits. As for staffing, he can pull double duty on that front. I'm sure he already has an idea of what most of his staff will look like already.
Oh, and Saturday at 4pm one of the talking points for a nationally televised game "Alabama's DC kirby smart is reportedly the next head coach at georgia". Assuming Alabama wins then Dec 31 there will be a nationally televised playoff game featuring Alabama where a talking point will be "Alabama's DC is the next HC at Georgia", and again if they make it to the CFP Final.

I dont understand WTF is going on in here. So there are dickheads in here that thought for a fricking second Kirby would walk out on his players before the playoffs? walk out on Saban? the guy who every ounce of his credibility is tied to? some of yall man
Saban already made that shitty statement about all this taking focus off what his team is trying to accomplish. how about let's have him basically call Kirby a piece of shite at a press conference if they lost. then give Cochran a 500k a year raise so we can't afford him

Only negative for me is I now feel the need to root for Bama just to avoid all the "Dawgs hired the guy who's defense just got throttled by "X" team" talk.

Not having it together? How? If Kirby is named the HC on Sunday/Monday then what don't we have together? If he has his OC/DC named shortly after then really where is the problem? Is the problem that our future head coach will be garnering constant national attention as his defense makes a national title run?
It's not as though he can't pull double duty. It's not like Alabama is going to have him on the recruiting trail over the next month. What's going to prevent him from making calls and sending those christmas cards that other coaches are doing?

Not a dam thing. Ridiculous to freak out over this. The positives outweigh the negatives by a long shot. The publicity is priceless. Kirby still recruits and puts our staff together. And if Kirby wasn't there, and Bama's D played lights out, we'd have to deal with the whole "Saban's puppet" mess again.

As long as the OC and the DC are named very, very soon and they have their asses on the recruiting trail specifically solidify every single commitment we have right now.

Haha I know the rules. Why do you think that we wouldn't use electronic and written communication (correct me if that is wrong, Mr. Rules) during the period when Smart is preparing for the playoffs?

All things which can be done while prepping Alabama's post season. Other coaches on the staff will have time to contact recruits during the dead period. The time Kirby would have spent doing that for Alabama he can do for his new team.I would be shocked if Kirby does not already have a good idea of the guys he will have on his staff. Everything else will just requires a few additional hours at the office.
All of this while gaining free publicity to retain/improve the current recruiting.

It's probably going to be a little awkward in Tuscaloosa for Kirby's remaining time, especially if the rumors of Kirby wanting to take Cochran and some other staff with him here, doubt Saban is going to be okay and chill with that. That combined with how many of the same recruits both schools are after could make things tense over there, hopefully it blows up in their face #SecretAgentSmart. To me its these factors that make this situation different from guys like Herman coaching OSU through the championship, I doubt OSU and Houston were recruiting the same 5 star guys.

You can talk on the phone and have written communication during the dead period.....now you know the rules.
