Haven't seen any footage, but he's going to sit for a year and learn and that will do wonders for him. I think he's the starter next year if Fromm leaves. Mathis has electric talent. He's just a bit raw.

That’s a little bit of an understatement

4/13, 131 yds, 1 decent 98 yd TD pass, “sacked” a good bit... still isn’t a commander of the offense but his athleticism shows

4/13 isn’t very encouraging at all.

Fields will be a good QB. I wish he had stayed. That being said, Fromm is better, and if one of them had to go .... good luck up there in the frozen north Mr. Fields.

It looks like Mathis has all the tools to be just as good as Fields. 6'6 210lbs and ran a 10.84 100 meters.

Watched his highlights and he still wants to run the ball too much, which isn’t so great in a game of two-hand touch for QBs.

I’m curious to see how he does.

Fields has gone as far as he’s going to go from his composite recruiting ranking. At some point he’s actually going to have to do something.

Mathis probably looks better that Fields did THIS spring. 4 of 13 with many bad passes and sacks. The RF QB was 20 of 36 for 246 yds.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I get most people here really don’t like Fields, but to say that Mathis has looked even close to as good as Fields did last spring is insane.

The 98 yarder was a broken play and the DB gave up or slipped.

It was not a great throw but a fortuitous one.

It was like 20 yard throw and a 78 yard run.

Fields' pass wasn't all that great but the it was 39 yards not 20. The receiver caught the ball at the 41.

Fields looked better playing for UGA.

Thing is, Fields didn’t go up there and even grab the job against a RFR who hasn’t played a down.

And against a 3rd-team DB who slipped. The ball was also thrown behind the receiver, who adjusted and made the catch. Take away that one play, and Fields has like 33 yards passing on 12 attempts.
