Hurts was never one of those game changers. He was always seen as a shitty passer who could make plays with his legs.
His legs were what made him a "game changer". His receivers always made him look good, but they could make any QB look good. That's generally what elite receivers do.

quote:

The only time Tua wasn't a game changer is when he was hurt.
He was very ineffective against us in the SECCG. It took Hurts (who was ineffective against us the season before) to get momentum and beat us. That tells me it isn't the QB by himself, but the team.

quote:

I just flipped to the BC/Clemson game. I would take either of those QBs over anything on our roster, keeping in mind that Lawrence isn't playing. Boston College has a better QB than Georgia and it isn't because they have a superstar like Matt Ryan. It's because we have FSU level QB play.
I don't disagree. Bennett isn't our "future". He's in there because our first choices left our program and our backups aren't yet ready to fill the void. Bennett gives us the best shot to win games and because we still have all our goals ahead of us, CKS isn't going to throw that away to develop players for next season or the seasons to come. Coaches are paid to win games today, not forfeit in the hopes of winning tomorrow.

We knew what Fromm was. He was a solid college QB. Fields had the potential to be a top 5 draft pick type. We're seeing that play out.

Completely agree. But he was solid enough to give us a very good chance at winning a National Championship. It was a difficult decision to make. Obviously, I wish we would have done it, and my real wish was we balanced Fields’ expectations better. Fields would have won the starting job in 2019 more than likely.

But it wasn’t an easy decision. Fromm’s 1st half against Bama in the SECCG was one of the best halves we’ve ever seen a Georgia QB play.

It was ugly but it should not have surprised anyone...based on Kentucky’s style and performance this season, there was no way Kirby was going to try to win it with offense (pass game.). This was always going to be about grinding out a win.

If I (just a regular guy nobody)knows that we have to score more and be more aggressive next week, then obviously our professional coaches do to.

Now if our qb are in the right mental place is the $$$ question.

Yes. A real quarterback.
Spoken with true ignorance. Fromm was a "real quarterback". He just wasn't a Justin Fields from 2019 (or 2020, it seems). He wasn't a 2019 Joe Burrow either but he was objectively one of the best QBs to play for UGA and helped lead us to a lot of wins over really good teams (and rivals). We just didn't have all the other pieces in place for him to win a national championship.

As concerned as I am about QB play, I’m more concerned about our injuries, especially Davis & Pickens.

I'm going to step in and remind all of you what I said about Stetson a few weeks ago. I called it and now a lot of you are seeing it. UGA isnt going anywhere this season with Stetson as our QB.

You also said you’re done with Kirby as HC so don’t think you deserve any praise for that.

Yes I did say that about Kirby but I also pointed out that we had the wrong QB in the game. And that is Kirby's fault.

Fromm was awful for most of last season. If you can't admit that, then we have different standards for what QB play should look like.

If Fromm would have played in 2018 like he did last season, he would have been benched.

You are intentionally downplaying the potential angle.
No, I'm not. For every Justin Fields there are a hundred Kyle Wrights. Busts happen all the time and unless Fields was obviously outplaying Fromm in practice, there would have been no reason for Fields to be the starter over Fromm in 2018. He did, however, get a lot of playing time, and while he made some good plays, he showed nothing that would make any rational person say "wow, he should be the obvious starter over Fromm".

We knew what Fromm was. He was a solid college QB. Fields had the potential to be a top 5 draft pick type. We're seeing that play out.
Fromm was a proven commodity. Fields wasn't at the time. Don't let your hindsight bias get in the way of what was known at the time. CKS did what pretty much every other head coach has done throughout history: he stuck with what he knew and tried to continue to develop his young QB for the future. In that case, Fields didn't want to compete in 2019 so he left. That worked out well for himself and for Ohio State but it left us without our future at QB.

quote:

No shite. The difference has been QB play. We've been decent and they've been elite.
"Decent" QB play would be enough with an otherwise complete team.

He was fine when Cager was healthy.

Numbers were much better

This is what you're missing. That is no longer enough to win a national title. You have to have elite QB play to win it all in this era.

Clemson just came back from down 28-10 against Boston College with their backup true freshman QB. We wouldn't come back from down 28-10 against air with our starting QB.

Because I expect the head coach at UGA to know more about quarterback play than me.
I'm sure he does know about it than you do. He knows more about it than I do. He is around those kids all the time, sees how they perform in practice, how they work with the other players, and the work they put in in the weight rooms, film rooms, and rec rooms. He knows better than we do.

There are coaches in college football who seem to never miss out on these decisions. Do you think it’s because of a crystal ball? It’s not luck, because it keeps happening over and over again.
You and others keep bringing up Alabama and Clemson but did you ever stop to think that they've been consistently competitive for national championships over the last few decades due to consistently reloading elite talent all over the field? Sorry but Tua and Hurts are the only reasons Alabama has been winning. Lawrence and Watson aren't the only reasons Clemson has been winning. They have been key pieces in their teams but they've been competitive because of the entire supporting casts.

When Fromm had a good supporting cast in 2017, you all downplayed it. When the cast wasn't quite as good in 2018 and 2019, you saw that as evidence that Fromm was a mediocre QB. Fromm would have been stellar with LSU's or Bama's WR's last year. It's a team sport.

Two words: supporting cast.

We had bad routes, missed assignments, and dropped balls all over the place last season. When we ran on first and second down and then had inconsistency on 3rd down attempts, our offense was anemic.

Again, it's a team game, and just like elite WRs can make a good QB appear godlike, inconsistent WRs can make a good QB look terrible.

Did you see who he had at WR and TE in '18 and did you see who he had in '19?

False. Fromm was a blown coverage away from a national championship and that was my point from the start. Our offense, led by a true freshman QB who wasn't a dynamic Fields, did well enough to win a national championship.

Joe Burrow wouldn't have won anything with our WRs last season.

They have great players all over the field. That's something you and others seem to be forgetting. You are happy to shine the spotlight on the QB but seem to ignore that they have an offense and scheme set up to help them succeed.
