I don't want any more SEC expansion, but if they did, would want Tech, UNC, and Clemson. It would likely be UNC, Clemson, and FSU however. FSU/FL is a traditional rivalry and we are traditional rivals with Clemson.
These conference expansions are killing a lot of good regional rivalries.
UNC coming would be the end of the UNC-Duke hoops rivalry however. I guess nothing is sacred any more.

Since the SEC already has Texas and A&M, wouldn't SMU make more sense than UNC? Similarly, since the SEC already has UK, Louisville would also make sense.
Agree that FSU and Clemson would be pretty logical given geography and existing rivalries.
Not really in favor of more expansion, but I suppose that it is inevitable at this point.

SMU as opposed to UNC, not GT.
SMU is a fairly wealthy school; their endowment is bigger than UGA's, albeit not by a whole lot. Their football spending is something like $20 million per year, which puts them on par with UNC. They have an insanely wealthy donor base, so upping that would not be a challenge for them. They are also in D-FW, which is a huge media market.

Yes, but they don't bring eyes. Expansion will be governed by revenue generation, and SMU doesn't move the needle.

Please.They'll bring more interest than GT and as for "eyeballs" What exactly do you mean? Market size?
The BIG has the biggest TV markets in the country and
the SEC obliterated them when it came to regular season TV ratings.
ETA UGA owns the Atlanta market and GT is a blip on the radar.

SMU football is 77th in TV viewership. That's lower than Wake Forest.
If you look upthread, I opposed GT as well.

Viewership is the number of viewers.
SMU's numbers would go up because of the teams they would be playing. SMU would not bring in new viewers in any significant numbers.
SMU had to buy its way into the ACC. That's how little they bring.

Really?
Can you link me to the metrics used? I've seen Auburn listed as a top ten team in terms of viewership but they were only ranked that high because of who they played. If your using the same metric it's very subjective
Once again,don't want either but I would choose SMU in a second over GT. SMU has more money, bigger alumni base and much more potential than GT

Georgia Tech, Clemson, or Florida State will never be invited to the SEC. They bring nothing to the table.
The only teams with any realistic chance are:
North Carolina
Virginia or Virginia Tech
Notre Dame
Teams we would invite if they weren't in a stable conference
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Those are the only teams that would increase conference revenue, the rest are redundant, not going to happen. The Big Ten teams will never happen either, but they are the only ones that move the revenue meter.

UNC would bring a huge boost to SEC basketball. The rivalries created by Clemson and FSU would also be big in football, but I don't think quality of rivals has much to do with the decision making. It seems to be about TV markets and revenue - period.

Yes, SMU was only in the ACC for two of those seasons, but one of them was their playoff season.
By comparison, Oklahoma State, which has been abysmal the past two seasons, averages as many viewers PER GAME as SMU draws for an entire season. That's how bad SMU's numbers are.
OKST tops current Big12 numbers, averaging 1.41 viewers per game for the past decade. UGA averages 7.5 million viewers per game.
I hope that I have answered your question. I'm done discussing SMU as an option. They won't even be a consideration if the SEC expands.

All this started when the B1G wanted Notre Dame and Utexas but they got Penn State and sat there forever.
As college football gets ruined, all this falls on the B1G for starting it all by being greedy.
As the thought above said, better to take the Bumbles than to let the B1G into GA. That would be a disaster as they would plant a flag in one of the biggest markets in the South (ATL).
