Does CKS change strategy this year on offense to help recruiting?

First — this isn’t a knock on CKS, I love that he leads our program.

Second — notice I said strategy, not philosophy. I still think he’s going to be a run/play action coach.

That said, it seems to me that everything he does ultimately ties back to two things — winning and recruiting. He’s got the monkey off his back, but it definitely doesn’t seem to be helping recruiting on the offensive side of the ball. I think he might shift his strategy a little bit to increase some production for the offensive guys. Less rotation at WR and running back early in games, letting the ones play deeper into blow outs, and letting the 2s run the full offense until late in the 4th….put up some video game numbers and try to flip a couple of key offensive targets.

Thoughts?

I think limiting the rotation at WR would definitely help. CKS said at media days (I think, but definitely recently) that Mitchell and McConkey were SEC WR but some others had to step up or something like that. So if targets are limited to those guys and Kearis Jackson and/or Blaylock, that would increase the individual numbers. I think Kearis will have the biggest season personally. No reason just a feeling.

WR has been nic'd up a ton the past few seasons. It is tough to say that we rotate too much when we are looking at injuries to Pickens, Burton, Jackson, and Hall from 2021.

I didn’t say it was too much but if they could get it to a few core guys who rack up individual stats it could be beneficial.

Yes, put 4 TE’s on the field at all times and dominate the other team every play. Pretty simple strategy to me. I could coach this Offense.

Agree to disagree. Our offensive recruiting has fallen pretty dramatically since losing pitman and Coley, Sans TE and QB. We’ve missed on a lot of linemen, receivers, and backs. I’d never want coley back as a coordinator/play caller but he did some heavy lifting in recruiting on the offensive side.

My point here is it feels like we need to use the talent we have now at its max potential to excite offensive recruits about wearing the G. The pipeline (2022 and current 2023)on the offensive side isn’t nearly as good as the classes above them were. We need to change the narrative. Only way I see that narrative changing quickly is having the team (points) and a few individuals (stats) put up some big numbers.

We were top 10 in scoring offense in 2021. For all D1. #3 in SEC
We had 7 offensive players drafted to NFL teams(some were not starters)
We won the Natty

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to go here.

The draft. We simply haven’t put the same type of draft numbers up on the offensive side as we have the defensive side. Elite prospects look at it…and we’re outperforming everybody on the defensive side of the ball, but if you’re a top 100 offensive player, there are better schools to showcase your talents.

Understand that we’ve been a little snake but with injuries, and that our talent now is very good/great, but if we don’t increase our output of offensive players in the first 2/3 rounds of the draft….recruiting that side of the ball is going to continue to wane. I think we’re already seeing it.

I also think it’s an easy fix but will require is to change the ground and pound strategy that we employ every time we have a 20 pt lead in the 3rd quarter.

I think you are proposing a solution to a problem you manufactured that doesn't really exist.

The 7 offensive players were from this year’s draft. Zeus, Cook, Pickens, etc.

The 2017 draft (post Kirby’s 1st season) we only had Isaiah McKenzie drafted.

Recruiting classes per 247 composite

2018 class: 8 offensive players over .9400

2019 class: 3 offensive players over .9400

2020 class: 7 offensive players over .9400

2021 class: 6 offensive players over .9400

2022 class: 4 offensive players over. 9400

2023 class (so far): 3 offensive players over .9400

I don't see any reason to be alarmed about offensive recruiting. It would look great to finish with 6+ players at .9400 for 2023 (back to back classes at 10+ players all of those years).

Every summer people panic about our recruiting class and every year we finish strong. When we actually finish poorly I’ll actually worry.

This is so stupid. Any decent SEC corner has enough speed/skill to cover a tightend. Don't you think if this would actually work they would do it?

I agree. It’s just upsetting to see Bama sign the top two recruits in Georgia this year.

Haynes was a shock to be sure, but daddy Downs has had an anti-UGA hard on for years. Between his own lack of offer from UGA and Josh’s no offer from UGA, I’m not terribly surprised Caleb chose to leave the state too.
