UK is still in total lockdown, I believe.

Spain and Italy already got ravaged in March, if anyone has herd immunity now, it's those bastards.

I can't speak to France or Germany situations.

7/20 numbers are out.

There does appear to be a plateau forming on the 7 day average of daily new hospitalizations. I am cautiously optimistic.... a similar plateau appeared July 11-14 before popping up higher again.

The previous 7 days average is 14% positive rate, but for the last 3 days the average is 12%, a hopeful, but not necessarily significant, sign.

More news-

Lowes requires masks nationwide starting today.

Home Depot starts Wednesday, same rule.

Kroger has already had the rule but my local Kroger makes no attempt to enforce it.

Publix is still optional.

Gwinnett goes online-only for the Fall.

Kemp is suing Keisha to prevent her from using the media to mask-shame people after he got a judge to strike down her local orders.

That's all I got for today.

Sorry I missed this. Check out the WSB link in OP. UGA virologist says it is more virulent.

Publix now mandates masks in all stores.

I was in Walmart today. One man was shopping without a mask. A Walmart worker told the man that he had to wear a mask. The man started to object but the Walmart worker handed the man a mask and he complied.

I see that now, goes into effect tomorrow for Publix. So dumb.

I guess it is back to grocery delivery and runs to the gas station for beer.

I will wear no mask.

When I put myself in the shoes of someone vulnerable or otherwise paranoid, I would have no business going into a grocery store or Walmart, order that shite online. If I was really really that fricking paranoid, I would not be leaving the house except for absolute necessity.

However, all the mask people who are feigning so much concern are the same ones who are out and about like it's no big deal, as long as they wear their little talisman.

It makes me think they aren't genuine, deep deep down inside. If they really were scared shitless, they wouldn't leave the house.

If you're going to a store that requires a mask don't be a dick to the minimum wage employee simply doing his job.

I wish it were that simple; however, people like my FIL still don't seem to get it and that is partially because of people who had your earlier attitude and swore to them that it was no big deal. They've now taken that to heart.

That feels like a really anecdotal observation. I wear a mask and I don't go anywhere I don't need to go. I also observe my 6ft. I'm sure there are those who are being more reckless BECAUSE of their mask, but I don't think they make up the majority by any stretch. People without a mask are certainly being reckless quite often as they, too, go about business as usual everywhere they go, or at least that is my anecdotal observation.

9%?

3.9 million out of 328 million?

Might want to recalculate.

It is a percent positive rate.

9% of tests administered have resulted in a positive.

It doesnt show specifics in that data, though.

As has been mentioned, people testing positive are forced to retest a negative before being allowed to ___________ (return to work, leave the country, volunteer, etc...). That could result in several positive tests for the same person. I have read that some recovered individuals have tested positive for 40-50 days straight.

The graphic isn't clear. The positivity rate refers to the percent of US COVID tests that were positive on that day. A 9% positivity rate means that we aren't testing enough.

I get that but there's no way to make it the 9% number with multiple positive test atributed to the same person. Its a silly graph that shows you very unclear data...so why not just use the entire population? About as accurate IMO

Wrong. Individuals wouldn't be tested multiple times on a given day. Some people might repeatedly test positive and others might repeatedly test negative. The positivity rate isn't cumulative.

It is.

1- Avoid crowded places
2- When going in public, wash and sanitize your hands before going out, to protect others, in case you are asym.
3- When returning from public, rinse and repeat to protect yourself.
4- If you have symptoms, shelter in place.
5- If you are extra vulnerable, shelter in place.

The masks only make people feel better. Most masks are mostly pointless. But if it helps just a little bit... ... people say. Or they'll say "if anything, it helps people remember we're in a pandemic and to take other precautions" I reject both of those reasonings.

We are probably looking at different things.

I'm not looking at a graph. I'm looking at Whiz's coronavirus positivity rate on this page.

The graphic gives a source. But it doesnt explain what the data is.

It does not state that the data is a daily positive rate. It specifically states that it is a positivity rate. No more. No less.

I've verified on the CDC website that the numbers are total positives / total tests.
4500438/48603115 = 9.25%

However, on the same website... there are only 3761362 US cases of coronavirus. That is a difference of 739,076 positive tests which we are left to be certain are the "retested" individuals.

3761362 total cases out of 48603115 tests would be a positive case ratio of 7.7%. That is a more accurate data of the spread of covid 19 right now.

Hope he's okay.
