Agreed. And this could have been handled better. I agree with several of the posters in here who think that Kirby definitely went after others, be it Gran and or Enos, and didn't so we promoted Coley. Otherwise why wasn't he announced right away?
I am cool with the continuity but that is the best part of the hire.

I have to believe we wanted Enos, but as I've said in other threads, I don't know that Enos/Pittman would coexist for more than a year.

Quote on Coley from Seth Emerson on Coley's Miami play calling
"His skill was using formations and matchups to keep opponents off-balance, something he learned from Jimbo Fisher when Coley was on Fisher's staff at Florida State from 2010-2012"

What a big surprise!
Now all we need is Lanning announce as DC with some no name coming into coach DB's and it will officially be the most uninspired hiring of coordinators I have ever seen lol
Not to say it won't work, but no one on this board thinks Coley was or first choice. I am not a fan tbh. Was hoping for an outsider

None of that matters anymore. It's a done deal, so the only question that matters now is this....
-Do you think we're better off with Coley as OC, than we were with Chandy?
If the answer to that is yes, or even if you just think it's a push, we're going to be in pretty good shape. Onward, baby!

Personally? I'd take Chaney over coley.
I remember playing against chaney and he did a good job.
We have years of evidence that he does a good job with good offensive line play (I'm looking at you catalina).
I don't think we have ever gone up against a coley offense. I don't remember ever wanting coley as oc in the past.
That said, I wouldn't be shocked if Kirby saw this as an upgrade. Or if Kirby felt we can be in a better position at some point next season than we would have been under Chaney (less predictable because we don't have 3 years of offense and adjustments ). Saban takes projects all of the time and they advance their careers under him. There is no reason to think coley can't do the same under kirby.

Your answer is what it is because of what you know. But would it be the same if you were thinking about Chandy when he was incoming from Pitt versus Coley now? None of us knew if Chandy would be a good hire (and very few of us actually thought he was). We were trolled about how bad he was at UT, Arky and Pitt. And somehow, we found ourselves playing in the NC two years behind his offense.
I’m going to defer to Kirby on this. He’s proven that he knows more about these guys and how they will fit our program than we do.

Like the continuity with Fromm, we almost had to promote Coley or risk losing him in a year. I'd say given the choice we made the right decision.

Looks like we wanted gran or Enos to be co-oc with coley. Both declined.

Why on earth would they decline? I'm very nervous about Coley. Hope he does great for us.

Who do you think gets paid more as the Georgia offensive coordinator? Jim Chaney? Or James Coley?
