Khalil Barnes a 3 year contributor at safety for Clemson has entered. From Athens and we need safety help.

We are going up to 18? I have been aware we have been at 17? Either way Texas Ohio State Oregon and Texas Tech all led this year around 25 million and LSU is committed to that much next year.

He lays it out in his announcement on IG. He makes it sound like docs cleared him but NCAA rules do not allow it so he needs to transfer where he can play.

Man…dudes got a heart condition and isn’t cleared by NCAA? Obviously it’s serious.
I think I’d just move on with life. If your heart goes while playing or practicing that’s it. No OT for that one.

I'm wrong a lot, but my understanding is that the programs can now directly pay players up to 18 million out of their own budget on top of whatever NIL money they can conjure up from donors and boosters.

For whatever reason, UGA seems to have de-emphasized the "collective" approach to fund raising. I'm fine with that, because it's obviously pay to play and not "NIL" in any reasonable sense of the term, but it may impact roster management. It's hard to see how any program can consistently maintain a top roster while paying lower salaries. Even if Kirby can do that, it probably won't last beyond his tenure at UGA.

Lucid perspective but it might also be somewhat analogous to the life decision to settle for a lower paying job to be close to home vs taking the highest paying job wherever aka catering to the highest bidder.
Objectively we seem to be better off with 4 star players who really want to be at UGA vs 5 stars like Raiola and Fields who really didn't want to be at Georgia.

That's why I'm okay with Georgia's approach. I enjoy watching athletes who strive for something other than the bottom line. It may or may not be the way to maximize outcomes every year, but it's fun to root for kids who still play for team and school.

What percentage of our players wouldn't bail if someone offered them $30,000 a month more? I don't know the answer which is why I'm asking, but I'd say most of them.

Spurlin is on a medical disqualification scholarship in Athens. If he is cleared and wants to play again, he is not permitted to do so at UGA because of that scholarship. He also has not been cleared by UGA doctors, just a third party. Think the opposite situation of JT Daniels.

Rumor is Jadan Baugh is hitting the portal from Florida, too, but I keep seeing discussion that he's heading to Texas.

Baugh is in the portal. He's from the state and he would be the perfect running back for Georgia, but it's conflicting. You'd basically be making either Frazier or Bowens third string, and no running back wants to be third string. Running backs are cool with being a duo, but they don't like threesomes.
Do you reward players like Frazier and Bowens from going through the program and sticking with the program, or do you reach out to Baugh? I don't know if there is or isn't a good answer.

Considering the money Baugh would cost I don’t see the point. Frazier and Bowens next year will be a great duo. If it was last offseason and he entered I’d say throw him the bag but this time I think we should pass on an expensive one year rental.

Yeah, Baugh is good but makes no sense for UGA.
Gonna be looking for WRs (as always), edge rushers, and a S imo. Maybe interior DL too.

How do we know Georgia doesn't have a top 10 payroll, or is it just a fun narrative to roll with?
