Play the starters until the game is well in hand. Pull the starters at the start of the fourth quarter. I believe that has a lot to do with the small amount of injuries we have had this year. Also builds a lot of depth.

The forgotten guy at Tackle is Hayes.

He and Wilson I would imagine will be the top competitors for the RT spot next year.

Remember how the backups let a TD late vs Florida that blew our shutout? The starters were PISSED, very pissed. These guys take pride in their stats and their successes. We want to be in a situation where these guys can play a full game and the backups can worry about continuing to get better so they are ready to step in due to injury or when the starter goes to the NFL. Remember, we are in a situation where the game is “easy” compared to the practices. The starters have earned the right to play as much as they want.

I couldn’t disagree with you more. When the game is pretty much won there is zero reason not to play the back ups. Game speed is different than practice speed no matter how hard Smart works to replicate it. Those few minutes of clean up time is huge to the nonstarters in the development toward the future.

Agreed. Not to mention if you leave a starter in the game during a blowout and he gets injured it can destroy an entire season. When you get into a blowout situation it benefit the team and individual to put in back ups.

Exactly. Our line was so good this year, we were able to redshirt him.

Depth Chart next year?

LT:Thomas(SO)||Hayes(JR)||Shaffer(rFR)
LG:Salyer(FR)||Johnson(rFR)||Allen(JR)
C:Gaillard(SR)||Fogarty(SR)||Ericson(FR)
RG:Cleveland(SO)||Kindley(SO)||Hill(FR)
RT:Wilson(rFR)||Baker(SR)||Mays(FR)

Madden(JR), Barnes(So), Condon(FR)

2019?
3 guys leave...Slide Ericson to starter at C, need backup, and Mays will probably be the primary backup at RT, and Condon will probably be behind him.

2020?
LT:Wilson(JR)||Shaffer(SR)
LG:Salyer(JR)||Hill(SO)
C:Ericson(SO)
RG:Cleveland(SR)||Kindley(SR)
RT:Mays(SO)||Condon(So)

That would be a depth chart without recruits that we would bring it. Now there will definitely be changes, but that just shows the depth we have right now, and how redshirting guys helps.

Rice has a lot of meaningful reps.

I don't know the "years" of guys like laguins. Probably sophs.

Lecounte has had a lot of minutes. Not a ton in the meaningful category.

Gibbs as well now that you mention it. Also the young LB.

Either way, we're going to have great roster management, full of talent.

Also a possible vote next month would allow freshman to play in up to 4 games and still receive redshirt. Basically to prevent burning a year due to having to fill in for an injured player.

Every year proposals are brought up, and methods of roster management change. They're hard to decipher, if you don't actually go read the rules per NCAA.

Current medical redshirt allows 3 games, so for instance, Gibbs would be ineligible, as he played 5 or 6.

Heard we will use medical waivers on a couple. Heard the same names last year as well, but it did not happen. Strange, as those players didn't play this year.
Those spots will open up scholarships this class will use.

The backups learned a great lesson when the starters got pissed. The garbage TD was worth it.

TCU or MS state?

I’m guessing Miss State now. Good get for them. Underrated 3-star

Stating it was for reasons beyond his control. Clearly was told he didn't have that spot anymore

I hate that. I understand it happens, but I don’t know how you tell a kid you’ve offered a scholarship to that he no longer has it. I get the reason, but it still sucks.

I know we want to get the best recruits possible, I just hope we don't burn too many bridges for recruiting in the future.

I think all these Billy Bob victims are out of state. Not as big a negative as in state.

That's always a concern but on the other hand, it makes the program more exclusive and should improve recruiting overall. Competition should breed better results.

Didn't Brule come on board when we had the 50th-something class? Unfortunate, but necessary. Dude has plenty of time to reevaluate and make a solid choice for himself. I wish him the best unless he lines up across the ball from us.

I'm assuming Kirby makes sure there is good news to follow bad news like Saban does. If so then we should see a commit or something tonight.
