Now that we're back on subject... with the add of Catalina, how does everyone rate Kirby's 'first class' (granted largely influenced by Richt, but he essentially held on to the pieces he wanted, let go of some that he didn't, and added a couple that may not have been on the radar)

If you'd asked me prior to Catalina committing as a grad transfer, I'd have said B+... Oline notably the problem. At this point, I give him a solid A with a shot at an A+ if Drob were to sign with the good guys. Addressed every position of need other than maybe place kicker and had a reasonable thought process on why not offering anything other than a PWO. Catalina is a hell of an add that doesn't impact scholly numbers or playing time for some of the big recruits we're in it for next year, but will add a much needed anchor to the Oline (also played backup Center!) allowing us to hopefully keep Eason upright and learning the speed of the SEC.

I would give him an A- now and an A if we sign Drob. A+ means more

B now. B+ if we get Robertson. A if we had gotten EJ Price (With Robertson) and A+ if we had gotten Price, Robertson and one other OT.

He did a great job keeping the core of our recruits after the change. He made it look easier than it was. I'm excited about the future.

I give him a B+ and an A if we get D-Rob. He did a great job in addressing our needs and he even snagged a few guys like Simmons that we didn't think we would get initially.

Rusty just posted an article about Robinson being close to a decision. Can anyone provide a summary on it?

Probably the latest article, which stated he would make a decision by February 17th. No clue on the entrance to Stanford yet, so I would expect that to be pushed back and see him in Athens this weekend...Although I believe he ends up at Stanford or ND.

I made my assessment with the understanding that he was on a tight time table. Probably would agree with a drop of a slight bump were he given a full recruiting cycle and was unable to pull a bit more, but sometimes the value is in what you *don't* do, rather than just what you do. It would have been easy for him to come in and chase a ranking, filling all the spots, but being 'smart' about it, understanding that without some major roster shakeups after 2016, the scholarship numbers will be a bit limited he was a bit more selective leaving room for some big wins next year on the recruiting trail.

No, it's an actual update. He's retaking the SAT so he's going to push his decision in to March, but more likely April.

The opposite actually. Likely taking the SAT again in March.

With all the respect in the world for his effort, he needs to get some honest feedback from the Stanford admissions people about his chances. The score is only part of the process, and the number of times you take the test matters at places like that.

Not when you are a 5 star athlete with his gifts. I think if he passes he is in. Without a doubt

Not sure if something has changed (which is of course possible since I'm old), but the number of times and previous scores have always mattered for the test period. Essentially under the old system, previous scores were given small weights against further results.

I also agree that the test score is not really indicative of whether he can get in or will even succeed there... it's simply one hurdle. At this point, continuing to miss the mark on the test would not be encouraging from a "preparedness" standpoint, relative to the academic rigors required at Stanford.

From a poster on 247... TIFWIW...

quote:

Met up with a couple last night and the husband works in the GT Ath Dept. he basically said that DRob told everyone that he was not going to GT, but it would not be Bama or UGA either. The term "football factory" was brought up quite a bit by his older brother. He apparently is more like a father figure and has his own company. He is stressing edUcation pretty hard. The best of both worlds so to say (which is why GT is out as well). Notre dame a top football team and great private school education.

Nothing too new outside of the fact that he basically said that there is nothing Kirby can say. It's not happening. So don't hold it against Kirby when we get bad news. I agree with this. He apparently let he old staff know a long time and told Kirby the same. Still Kirby knows anything can happen in a visit and he is being polite to a point.

I wish I had better news, but thought I would share. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think this guy would lie.

If they don't want a football factory then I don't get why Tech would be out of the equation.

I respect your posting this, but really, why would DRob spill those beans to a GT guy when he would obviously know full well that guy could go tell the world what DRob said? It would be akin to DRob admitting he's going to visit UGA again and perposely waste the time, effort, and resources of the coaching staff just because he wants to exploit the process for fun, which would be a massive dick maneuver and a total bridge burner that I don't see anyone doing.

I really don't see Kirby as the kind that would put up with that shite either. If a kid tells you there's absolutely positively no way no matter what that I'm coming to your school, but hey, I want to come on some more official/unofficial visits so you can pander to me and waste your time, I don't see Kirby playing that game. And again, I doubt anyone, even an 18 year old kid, is going to just give that type of info away.

There's a LOOOONG history of people claiming they have scoops and manufacturing or embellishing stories to get attention and/or spite rival fan bases. And you're giving us news from a Techy about a potential UGA recruit. I wouldn't bet the mortgage on the authenticity of this story. Just sayin.

so why would he keep bama and uga and gt all up there as his "finalists" if he knows he isn't going there? Regardless of what he may have said to coaches in private, it's pretty chickenshit to to keep those 3 schools in limbo if you KNOW you aren't going. And it's not like we're pre-NSD where you wanna create drama and all that other riff raff. We're not potentially talking March that he's deciding, it should be rubber meets the road type stuff now. If all that stuff from the tech guy is true, DR should have come out long before now and said it's Stanford if he gets the score, if not it's ND.
