We came into the year with 84 scholarship players, and we will sign a full class of 25. In addition, we will be adding Javonne Shepherd in January (done deal I’ve heard) and possibly Scooby Carter if he checks out (he wants to come here but our staff is cautiously looking into his troubling academic tendencies in HS and Bama). With only 5 seniors graduating, this means we have to create at least 20 spots (possibly 21) before next Fall. So far, the following players are either retiring or transferring:

Vernon Jackson
Deneric Prince
Roshaaud Paul
Moses Reynolds
Derrick Tucker
Brian Johnson

Additionally, Justin Madubuike and Quartney Davis are both expected to declare for the draft. That’s 8 right there. I’m also hearing the following players are expected/very likely to transfer or retire after the season or after the Spring:

James Foster
Jacob Kibodi
Camron Horry
Riley Anderson
Camron Buckley
Trayvon Fuller
Hezekiah Jones
Colten Blanton
Kellen Diesch

That’s 9 more, leaving at least three more players who need to leave.

I’ve been told a several transfer dark horses after the spring are Jalen Preston (with Davis likely gone and two other receivers probably transferring, he likely will never play if he can’t secure a spot this spring), Caleb Chapman (sand reason), Grayson Reed and most surprisingly Jashaun Corbin (with the emergence of Spiller and Richardson, he may quickly find his carries limited if we bring in 2-3 backs in this class). Word is Blumrick will stick it out and try to find a position to utilize his athleticism.

Thanks for the info. Other than the 2 guys declaring early, this doesn't seem nearly as painful as I thought. If guys have been around 2+ years already and aren't seeing the field, it is time to move on.

We SHOULD have our best team on paper since 2012 next year. Based on what I’ve heard, and trying to account for freshman (very hard to do) I think our two deep looks something like this next August.

QB: Mond/Calzada
RB: Spiller/Corbin
Outside receiver: Rogers/Ausbon/Demas/Wright
Slot: Smith/Preston
TE: Wydermeyer/Cupp
LT: Green/Trainor
LG: Moore/Jenkins
C: Matthews/Robinson
RG: Hocker/McCollum
RT: Green/Trainor

SDE: Hunter/Clemons
DT: Leal/Peevy
NT: Brown/Jones
WDE: Johnson/Wilson
LB: Hines/Johnson/White/Hansford
CB: Blades/Jones/Renfro/JUCO
NB: Young/Morris
Safety: Richardson/Jones/Carper/Williams

Kicker: Small/Davis
Punter: Constantinou/Davis
KR: Smith/Preston
PR: Smith/Achane (if we land him)

Looking at our roster, with Cupp/Wydermeyer/Beal at TE and Spiller/Richardson/hopefully Corbin/at least one highly touted freshman our 12, 21 and 22 personnel groupings could be devastatingly effective next year.

I personally think that, if you have a mobile QB and decent blocking from the TE spot, 21 and 22 sets are the most difficult offensive sets to defend in football.

athleticism

He sure as shite looked very awkward at running back. Didn't look very athletic to me in the limited time I've seen him. I guess his long frame hides that athleticism.

No offense to any of those guys as I’m sure many have given it their all and tried their best for our program, but I don’t see a huge loss anywhere on that list should it be mostly accurate. Hope they find programs that afford them more playing time, and Jimbo gets to bring in more of his own guys to continue improving and building the program.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I know recruiting is never a perfect science, but I’m really disappointed diesch never panned out. Our line has not been great this year and you’d have thought a high 4 star guy that’s an upperclassman would be a strong point in it....oh well.

Nice 2 deep.
I was wondering if not including Leon O. at safety was on purpose?
Are people really expecting Matthews to beat out McCollum at center? I have watched him closely when the 2nd OL comes into games, and I just don't see it. Hope I'm wrong.

Hunter kicking outside and Leal inside is interesting too. We really need Hunter and/or A. Jones to step up next year on the DL. We are losing a monster.

I was really hoping Madubuike would come back for another year. But if he is a first rounder you cannot blame him for going

Saban would get him to return somehow.

Davis is leaving for financial reasons from what I've heard.

The Corbin rumor doesn't surprise me.

With the emergence of Cordarrian Richardson, he would have likely started the spring 3rd string behind both Richardson and Spiller.

Always knew we were going to lose a few talented players, but if we get Achane I don't think we miss Corbin as much as thought. There was never a chance that Madebuike was coming back next year.

I think we're selling Corbin short. I think he's better than Richardson, maybe Spiller too. It'll be an open competition in the Spring.

I disagree, but not because I think Corbin is less talented.

He is the fastest back on our roster right now, but the least durable.

Might want to add Max Wright as well. Rumor is that he may not be able to play again due to the extent of his shoulder injury.

I thought Preston, Tucker, and Wright would all do something here

I don't think we can take 25. Don't forget Mowry.

I've asked this elsewhere but still don't know...

What happened w James Foster? He was such a huge get/win from Clemson!

You sure it was Clemson. They signed a pretty good QB that year.

Why are people saying this? He never visited Clemson and Clemson never offered.

He was a Missouri commit for most of the year, then visited LSU/FSU/Alabama before committing to us over FSU with Jimbo switching schools.
