Eh, from what I've seen (not just this season at A&M), his teams do have a slight proclivity to play down to competition sometimes. On the other hand they also tend to play UP to competition, as well.

I'll take the good with the bad and hope talent/execution carries the day.

I'm confused as to why some Ags are mad about NC State as an opponent. They are the 3rd best ACC team this year and went 9-3. They actually have a fanbase that takes football seriously and are not some tiny private school that thinks football is a cute diversion from basketball season. They are generally a decent team in most years. Their QB is being talked about as a first round draft pick.

While I would have preferred a Big 10 opponent that was mostly b/c I think we match up better with those teams. What is it about NC State that has so many disappointed?

I’m happy with it

I want Jimbo to get to 9 wins this year and I want our kids to enjoy one more victory

You must have already forgotten the Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Auburn games. We absolutely had games this season where we played down to competition & had games where we shot ourselves in the foot/were our own worst enemy/lacked focus.

Edit to add, I’m hoping our games this year were more of Sumlin players/mentality being left over and something Jimbo will correct over time, but we absolutely had some crap games this year.

Idk, I don't get it, either. I'm excited to play NCSt.

Hell, I actually wanted either them or Virginia Tech to be the 14th SEC team.

Their back is pretty damn powerful. He's a bowling ball. 5'11" 235 with 18 TDs. A lot of teams were able to keep him under 4 ypc so I would expect our front to be able to as well. He's not going to beat you outside. The #2 back aint small either. 6'1" 210. Neither can catch the ball for shite. I don't think they'll bring anything to the table we haven't seen there.

I'm not particularly worried about NCSU.

We should smoke a 9-3 team from the ACC.

Their top WR is skipping the bowl game so that should help.

Kelvin Harmon has 1186 yards and 7 TDs. That's a big loss.

Yeah that's a big one for them.

He caught nearly 29% of Findly's TD passes (7/24) and 26% of his completions (81/307).

Of course, they also have a second 1,000 yard WR and a 1,000 yard RB so they won't be without other big time weapons. According to SaturdayDownSouth they are only the second ACC team to ever have two 1,000 WRs along w/a 1,000 yard RB.

Also from SDS

quote:

Their best defensive player is LB Germaine Pratt

The senior linebacker is second in the ACC in tackles (104) just one behind North Carolina’s Cole Holcomb. Pratt is also among the conference’s top tackler for loss, ranking ninth in the ACC with 6.0 sacks.

Five times this season, Pratt has recorded double-digit tackles, including a career-high 16 in a 51-41 loss at Syracuse. Fourteen of those were solo tackles.

Their history with the SEC

The Wolfpack will face Texas A&M for the first time. They are familiar with the SEC, but haven’t had a whole lot of success, posting an all-time record of 7-29-2, including a 3-4 mark in bowl games.

The last time the Wolfpack played the SEC in a bowl game was the 2016 Independence Bowl, a 41-17 victory over Vanderbilt. It’s the only victory in the past seven meetings with the SEC.

Only once before the Wolfpack has faced an opponent from the SEC in the Gator Bowl. In 1992, they lost to Florida, 27-10.

Worth noting

This will be the Wolfpack’s 32nd bowl game. They are 17-13-1 all-time in the postseason and are making their fourth trip to the Gator Bowl. They played in the 1947 Gator Bowl and returned in both 1992 and 2002.

Most of the whining I've seen has been more about Citrus/Outback vs. Gator than the opponent. Win more games and STFU, sez the old curmudgeon.

Who cares which one it was as long as it was in Florida. I swear to god I was going to lose my shite if we went to Houston or Memphis again.

I admit to being slightly annoyed that LSU got a better bowl, when we (1) finished higher in the SEC standings and (2) beat them.

I wouldn't have lost my shite but I sure would have watched the Liberty Bowl from the couch. I never dreamed Memphis could be so cold. Coldest I have ever been in my long, long life. The win did help, though, as did the ribs.
