Unbelievably short-sited and selfish of that coach to do that. This is the worst recruiting story I've heard since that kid committed held a press conference to commit to Berkeley when he didn't have an offer.

For those who do not know the current and former Westfield HS coaches Corby & Matt Meekins, they are two of the most morally sound, respectful and rock solid men that you will ever meet. Matt (Current Westfield HC & Leukemia survivor) and his family spent a weekend in CS this season watching the Ags, hanging out in the Letterman's Lounge and even "Sawed em off" at Kyle Field with me and my family. Neither Corby nor Matt have ever had any major problems or bias against TAMU...although Corby might view it a little different now that he is @ UT. Matt actually personally brought Tyrie Cleveland to TAMU 3 times and was with him as he committed to TAMU. Florida was never allowed to visit with him at Westfield after he committed to the Ags. Matt says that every high school he has coached at has had the same rule: "College coaches are not allowed to speak with a player who is committed to another university on their HS campus." That rule was in place at Westfield even before Corby became the head coach many years ago. Matt said that many of the major high schools in the area have the same rule. I personally like the rule as it actually adds a little value to the word "Commit". It also helps avoid putting the coach and player in an awkward situation... For example, yesterday the TAMU coaches showed up at the same time Coburn was in a meeting with the UT coaches. Matt said that college coaches are free to and fully expected to continue to recruit the committed kids at their homes and other locations but he would not promote that at the HS as long as the kid was still "Committed". FWIW...Even his brother Corby was not allowed on campus to meet with committed players (his former players). Corby did flip the committed RB from UH to UT but not on Westfield's campus... Westfield is obviously a huge hot bed of talent (Ed Oliver, Tyrie, Coburn, Etc) in a perfect and easy location relative to TAMU. As an Aggie who wants to see our football team win a NC, I think it is in our best interest to have a good relationship with Westfield HS. Trash talking and bashing of a school and coach because they enforce their rules seem counterproductive to our goals. There are obviously many people that read these boards that play an important role in developing these relationships... Les go Ags!

I’m not sure how smart it was for that boy at UT to drop all pretense of gentlemen’s rules and invite an ol country rascal like Jimbo to pick his time and method of revenge.

Maybe if we had some sort of young pussy coaching over here... but Jimbo? The guy’s mean and has a temper. And experience and connections.

It’s not the move I would have made if I were a bitch-made kid like Herman. But he did, so be it.

Then they wonder why 7vs7 leagues are on the rise. Dumb shite like that is not in the best interest of the players.

Oh yeah! Forgot about that story. What was his name?

Man, that was actually a sad story. I feel bad for the kid. All he wanted was to play D1 football. It's crazy that none of his coaches picked up on the lie.

It's a strange sad story, but also impressive how many people reached out to him when he thought his life was over. Eventually got a shot in DII, but couldn't find any information beyond that.

Easily the worst opinion a college football fan can have, even if it doesn't apply to Texas.

I hate "college football is better if Michigan is good."

or

"College football is better if Notre Dame is good."

It basically announces you are a front running fan, and that I can't respect your opinion on the matter ever again.
