That one always annoys me. I think to myself, "Well, it's good for Michigan State players and fans when Michigan State is good."
I have zero ties to any Big Ten schools, but just as a fan of the game I think it's pretty cool when a school besides Michigan or Ohio State has a good year. Lazy sports pundits who have to cover all sports and only have an inch-deep understanding of college football just LOVE to prop up the blue bloods.

In a neutral situation I enjoy seeing the sleeping giant types realize their potential. Like I have enjoyed seeing Clemson rise up and become a power (except now we have to play them), same with Michigan State and Washington. It’s probably because we are that type of program and it gives me hope.

And that just perpetuates the caste system of talent that basically defines the sport.
I told all my Aggie friends back then that nothing made me more depressed than Charlie Strong's second year at Texas. they couldn't understand why- I mean Texas as a team sucked.
But what I saw was one national sports writer after another have higher standards for their program then they had- ie "Will Charlie be fired after this season?"- which just shows what sort of moat they have around them that keeps a program like us under their thumb even in the bad years.
I think recently we just bought the best boat at the boatyard to try to cross that moat, but until sports writers start to give up on Texas (like they have done for Nebraska for example) then it will always be an uphill battle for us.

They don't call it that in Germany. They just call it Telekom or T-Kom for short.

Good luck with that. TAMU ceded the press to Texas when they idiotically killed the journalism program.

It's not like they were really fighting back when the journalism program did exist, but that was a stupid move by Bowen.

I agree, and I'm a Michigan fan.
It's a lazy, untrue trope. College football is better when there are good teams playing each other and compelling championship games.
