TAMU is just not a fun team to play against

Maybe a different spin on the "we're not flashy" line, but I think our opponents really do not enjoy playing us. Not because we embarrass them with big plays or razzle dazzle. The shite is just workmanlike. Think about UF--they played about as perfect a half of football as you can play on the road against a legit SEC West opponent, had won the turnover battle, only punted once, and still TAMU is RIGHT there, just waiting to force that one critical error. The rest of our opponents (sans Bama, of course) just get gradually smushed. Haven't seen an A&M team like this in awhile. They just zap their opponents' will little by little over 60 minutes. That's gotta be frustrating as hell to line up against.

No idea if they'll keep it up, or if they'll make the CFP, or any of that, but I haven't seen a team at A&M quite like this in awhile. I'm enjoying it.

It really reminds me of some of our previous teams. Don't know that the defense will ever be as dominant as it used to be but damned if it isn't fun to watch

Run the dang ball. Play field position. Defend the dang ball.

My favorite ever A&M game was my last one as a student at Kyle Field: Nebraska 2010. I love defense. For me, there's nothing more fun than watching my favorite team just choke the life out of the other side every time they have the ball, and watch that realization set in that they KNOW it'll take something unusual for them to score, much less score enough to win.

It ain't sexy, and it won't end up on SportsCenter, but damn if it ain't fun to watch in real time when a good defense is dialed in.

I have accepted that we won’t be a “flashy team” under Jimbo, but I do wish we’d get a little better at steamrolling a team we are clearly better than. I really liked the USCe score where we thrashed them, but LSU and Auburn should’ve been 21+ point blowouts, neither team is that good this year.

I blame my BAS on the Sumlin years, I just don’t feel safe even with a 2 score lead over average teams.

We’re not flashy because we don’t have a play maker / game changer at QB. This isn’t a knock on Mond. Look at the best offenses in CFB. Trask, Mac, Fields, Lawrence, Wilson, etc. I’m not talking about air raid throw it 50x a game. Those may he considered flashy, but generally they’re not anywhere near as good as their #s.

I think you will see more flash in the next few years with King

I love sound consistent OL play and we have it this year in both facets (run blocking and pass pro). Combine it with really sound front 7 play and we are an old school football’s fans dream

Man, I get we're hopeful on King, but was he super dynamic in HS? Is he really supposed to be better than Mond? Not that we need anything more than Mond, because we've got a good team this year. I'm just not sure that QB will be appreciably better.

I highly recommended the Late Kick podcast, he made a really good point yesterday, we’re a Tier 2 team and the only thing that brings you from Tier 2 to Tier 1 is an elite QB. I like Mond and he’s done his job this year but he’s not elite, I have incredibly high hopes for King and I think with his development we see a more “flashy” offense

I don’t think Mac Jones is an elite QB but they have an elite set of playmakers around him. I’m not sure what defines a Tier 1 or Tier 2 team but we without a doubt a top 7 or so team in the country this year and probably better (I think us and ND are very even for number 4 when at full strength)

There are three teams capable of winning it all this year I think (Bama Clemson OSU)

Mond was a ~50% comp% passer in high school. He was a strong dual threat, but King is a much better athlete. Legit 4.5 runner, 37” inch vert, 4.02 shuttle. For comparison Jaylon Jones has a 4.32 shuttle. He’s more developed as well as the son of a coach. He’s not being asked to start as a true freshman like Mond was. Any young QBs will have some issues. He probably won’t take care of the ball as Mond. He might not have the same pure arm strength. But the unknown game breaker factor is there. We’ll just have to wait and see just how good he is.

Pelini losing his mind and earning himself a personal foul for his troubles will always be one of my favorite memories at Kyle. He had been screaming at the refs almost from the jump so when it finally happened the entire crowd erupted in what I can only describe as a combination of laughter that a coach lost his mind like that, venom towards him for behaving like a madman all game, and appreciation for the gift of a needed 15 extra yards.

LINK

Here is a link to the full game if anyone wants to relive it.

From Zwerneman’s twitter. Fits this thread:

Great answer from Texas A&M LB Buddy Johnson when asked where he'd rank the Aggies -- he said he had no idea: '(But) I can tell you what time we practice today.'

I do not believe that our offense is going to suddenly look like the Kansas City Chiefs or what we saw from Manziel after Mond leaves. Which seems to be what a segment of our fan base really wants, deep down inside.

It's possible that King could be better than Mond on the deep ball and a little more consistent, game to game. I'll grant you that.

But I just don't think Jimbo is gonna abandon the ground game with Spiller, Achane and Smith in the backfield. I bet we're still a run heavy offense next year and looking to get it to Wydermeyer to move the chains or as a red zone target. I think that's just who we are and what we will be next season, too.

Go look at his high school highlights. Plus, I have some friends who know the coach of the team (Father), and this kid is dynamic.

Of course we won't. We aren't just going to become the Air Raid - run and ball control will still be the game
