Since he's taken over the starting job he's averaging:
23.7/33.7 (70.3%)
278.7 yards per game
6 TDs
3 INTs
2-1 record
102.6 Rating

I think he’s gonna float in that Ryan Fitzpatrick territory where he’s too good to be a career backup but not good enough to be a franchise QB for a team

Nothing wrong with that and not a bad way to make a living

I can’t believe three QBs that played for A&M now start in the NFL.

And none of them are our Heisman QB.

He’s set for life already with 75 M earned. He may very well add to it as he’s a FA this offseason and I’m not talking about some 1 year 2M deal like he’s on now.

If you would’ve told me 4 years ago that someday Kyle Allen would have more wins in the NFL than Johnny, I would have laughed......

But as sad as it is, it really isn’t about talent. Johnny has (had?) all the tools. He just couldn’t manage the fame and made some really bad choices.

It’s probably our karma for making fun of Vince all those years, now our greatest QB in recent history failed out of the NFL as well.

But was Johnny really our greatest QB?

Can you imagine Johnson or Tannehill with Mike Evans to throw to?

Yes, but at some point we stopped blaming Shanahan and started blaming Johnny.

t.u. fans still think Jeff Fisher is the reason Young failed.

Agreed. Yes Johnny had a great cast around him, but he also had the skills to pull it all off. Had he stayed here and finished his eligibility 1) we’d probably still be on NCAA probation for something he did but 2) he’d have all the A&M QB (and probably lots of SEC conference) records and nobody would come close to touching them.

Yeah I remember a lot of people blaming the Browns for his problems, and don’t get me wrong their program is a total sh*t show, but 95% of Johnny’s problems were his own fault, not the team or program he was with.

Yes it's not even close. The idea that JFF was only good b/c of Evans is silly. He spread the ball around quite a bit. He wasn't just tossing up prayers to Mike.

I didn’t say he wasn’t good or great

I pointed out that if tannehill or especially Johnson had Evans to throw to and the same oline
Heisman would have been a real outcome as well

Tannehill's starting offensive line in his final game at A&M looked like this:

LT - Luke Joeckel
LG - Jarvis Harrison
C - Patrick Lewis
RG - Cedric Ogbuehi
RT - Jake Matthews

That was the EXACT SAME starting 5 when Manziel won the Heisman.

Yeah that trope got started mainly thanks to haters. Sure Mike was a high volume target, but JFF definitely spread it around. Blows my mind how much people forget the impact of Ryan Swope or Malcome Kennedy or even Uzoma Nwachukwu. The backbreaking passes in the Bama win were to Swope and Kennedy. Game winner vs. ole miss? Swope. Even that crazy pass vs. Bama in 2013 was completed to Pope, not Evans.

No one ever said JFF was only good because of Evans

I question calling him the best ever however, and wondered how Johnson’s or tannehills career would’ve been with the same supporting cast including Evans.

It would have been better, but I don't think Evans makes up the gap. Not even close.

SR Tannehill
61.6 comp %
3,744 yards
7.1 Y/A
29 TDs

FR/SO JFF
68.0/69.9 comp %
3,706/4,114 yards
8.5/9.6 Y/A
26/37 TDs

And this is before you add in rushing stats.
