This is a big downside to Woodward jumping ship. We need changes at Olsen Field and Davis Diamond. Childress would have a job as a pitching coach somewhere inside an hour if he was fired over the weekend.

He’ll have a head coaching job at a good school very quickly. He’s a top 15-20 coach.

Childress is a pitching coach. That is his skill set.

Offer the TCU head coach Schlossnagle the job. He wins CWS games with Texas talent regularly.

I doubt we’d be able to get him.

Schlossnagle turned down both t.u. and Mississippi State, both promising a significant salary upgrade.

Well someone with a little more baseball zen wisdom similar to Schlossnagle would be a nice change.

I would take Saarloos, the TCU pitching coach

I think he’s turned down a few jobs. He should be ready though. He might end up being a good one, but like our football & basketball hires, I’d prefer more of a sure thing. Can anyone argue that Sumlin or Kennedy are better than Jimbo & Buzz? RC has proven resume for days over Kirk.

Edit: it was rice

That’s fair, I get more ready for a change each year but probably better to do it only if there’s a sure thing available. The lack of position player development drives me nuts

I would look at smaller program head coaches that have shown consistency before going with another pitching coach

Dallas Baptist
Sam Houston St.

Yeah the DBU coach would be great.

I don’t know if Deggs is an option with what went on here but who knows

I like Deggs, but I don’t think he’s the guy to get us over the top. I’m more intrigued with Heefner.

Kirk has been under Scholssthefrickhisnameis for a while. He’s probably groomed to be more than just a pitching coach. He’s seen that care it takes to handle the mental side.

These are all solid names, but not a damn one is very likely to be as good or better than RC. It might be time to take that shot though.

I agree, if there isn’t another major conference sure thing type coach, Heefner would be my preference. I would be shocked if we make a move this year though. I would probably prefer us to at this point but understand why we may wait depending on who’s available.

I have the take that the A&M program will pretty much always stumble and bumble to at least a tournament appearance. I just hate the style of baseball that we play. I know next to nothing about any potential replacements but as long as they understand how baseball has changed, I will prefer them and would believe we are in better hands

What style is that?

I like riding good to great pitching. We just can’t be so one sided that we fail if pitching fails.

Putting literally our entire program into developing starting pitching and continuing to fail at developing a competent lineup outside of 2016

And just the general way we go about creating runs

I prefer having a powerful lineup focusing on the three true outcomes with a dominant bullpen

You mean pray that the other team fricks up and commits a series of errors?
