This guy was a HOMERUN hire. After watching the film session with Stephen McGee, it’s clear to me A&M’s coaches ran circles around LSU’s coaches in crunch time and OT.

I’ve been pleased with how he has transformed the defense in one season. Really good at stopping the run. We have to consider ourselves very fortunate to have Elko.

Luckily we have also pretty much priced him out of the market. Hopefully he has a couple years before getting HC offers.

We had to go 7 overtimes and gave up 72 points.

On the other hand, some lsu posters want to get rid of their OC after scoring 72 points.

The season went well but this game was not a selling point by any means lol...

Just as Kellen Mond went full Jedi in OT, LSU scored every time too. Granted those are short fields, but damn. We hadn't exactly shut them down in regulation either.

Yeah we had some big issues with stopping burrow when he got to scrambling. Had no clue he was as quick/elusive as he proved to be. Other than that we kept their ground game in check though

First half was good defensively, second half and OT not so much. Elko is very good though

Only 24 points in regulation. Not great but not bad either.

Better than the 45 we gave up in regulation last year under “chief”....

If I recall correctly, we shut them down and forced a long FG in the first OT. Then our offense had the ball first and goal from the 2 yard line. So, the game should really have ended there, not gone to 7 OT

Yup. The last possession of regulation and the first possession of OT were:

Rush, +1
Rush, +5
Rush, -1
Punt

Rush, +1
Inc
Sack, -5
FG

They got beat up at times, because there are so many weak links in the secondary, but they played their best when it mattered.

This. The defense did exactly what you'd want them to do in that first OT (and in the OT vs. UK). And let's not overlook how massive their stop was on LSU's last possession of regulation. LSU needed only 1 first down to salt the game away, and they did try to run Burrow. Stonewalled 'em to give the ball back to the O.

The sequence with 4-5 sacks in about 10 plays was something else.

Elko is very good. Aranda is also very good. Elko probably limited somewhat this year by personnel issues in the secondary. Aranda had his hands tied with a ton of injuries and a starting LB suspended. Still both units were strong overall. Ensminger and Cregg did do a good job adjusting at half with some tweaks in the blocking scheme to get the run game popping. Burrow also made excellent reads at times. Overall just another weird offensive season in the chronicles of LSU football.

I think Aranda has far more talent in the secondary at hand than Elko. I'm not sure who out there does have better DBs than Aranda.

I thought Ensminger made the right strategic decision to go more to the pass fairly early in the game. Ags are pretty good against the run this year. Way more opportunities through the air against them.

There were a few times where Ensminger got a little too conservative calling a QB run, I thought, instead of throwing it. But maybe Orgeron didn't want to risk a turnover.
