Not cowardly to opt out, these kids are making a business decision.

That said I think a guy like O'Neal should consider playing because it gives him a chance to showcase what he can do and have more film. I'd think he would want more playtime not less. That said I don't begrudge him and certainly don't think he owes A&M anything.

For a guy like DeMarvin I totally get it. He's a Top 10 level talent and an injury could cost him millions. All he needs to do is train and do well at the combine and A&M Pro Day. Everyone knows what he can do on the field.

These upperclassmen gave everything to the program. It's the young ones turn now

I don’t fault guys for opting out when it’s in their best interest, I get it you could literally lose millions of dollars to a freak injury. We as fans have to remember it’s not just about our viewing enjoyment all the time.

That being said, I do wish they could implement some sort of system that incentivizes players to play in the game (maybe like the cash payout someone suggested earlier). It truly is turning any bowl that isn’t a playoff one into a meaningless game, and that disappoints me as bowl season used to be a ton of fun with all the matchups.

As to the news that calzada is hitting the portal before the game surprises me. Why this timing? Is it really that critical to get scooped up now? I realize he saw the writing on the wall with King and Weigman but just seems weird. I’m sure somebody will pick him up, but don’t think the guy is P5 starting material unless he’s on a weaker team like a Kansas, oops I forgot they beat the mighty texas, maybe he would fit at like Vandy or somewhere?

Could it be he is more hurt than we thought? Maybe surgery and rehab so he is ready at new school in spring? Just a guess but i could see it being the reason

Looks like that’s the case, seeing a couple places saying he had shoulder surgery and wasn’t playing in the game anyways.

Hope he heals up, hard for QBs to come back from that depending on what exactly they are fixing. Still remember how good Jerrod Johnson was and how different he was afterwards and getting replaced by Tannehill

He’s supposedly pretty hurt and may need surgery on the shoulder. Makes sense to do it now so he can be ready for spring with a new team than wait. Don’t fault him at all for it

Has Zach graduated yet? Why would he forego a degree from A&M to play football for a couple more years at a shitty G5 school? Surely he knows, he's not playing at the next level.

Oh, I didn’t even think about that. Might be so. Hopefully so as if it’s the throwing shoulder, that’s what I was referencing. Just seems like guys never come back the same from it.

My understanding is it is his non throwing shoulder and he already had surgery so he was out for the game anyway. That makes sense and actually benefits the team in a way. If he was leaning towards a transfer anyway and wasn't playing in the bowl then freeing up his spot now helps for planning.

He'll get a shot somewhere. A guy with a cannon arm and a Bama win on the resume will have some options.

Him graduating in December changes my whole stance. He wants another year to play the game he loves. He wil already have the diploma so there really isn’t a downside.

Yeah he probably realizes that WHICH IS WHY he'd transfer to play elsewhere. Did you actually ever play sports? Dudes want to play they don't want to ride pine. Are you really going to pretend that you'd rather be 3rd string at A&M than start at a school like Houston or even North Texas? Really?

He has nearly 40 games of tape for the NFL to look at. One more wouldn't do too much to help his cause.

Yeah, and the scientific cattle auction evaluation process of the modern NFL draft probably minimizes the need for more film. The guys writing detailed assessments of bubble butts on d-linemen probably aren't dying to see how we handle Wake Forest.

A degree from A&M will serve him better in his post-football career than a degree from Houston. I really believe that.

It's my understanding that he will have the A&M degree. Besides, King is starting so it doesn't matter. Apparently a lot of the upperclassmen are sitting out the bowl game so should get a good look at next year
