Kellen Mond is a far less talented and far less composed Jerrod Johnson.

Overall Mond did pretty damn good for a guy constantly under pressure.

I agree but I don’t think it’s the road. He plays better when he’s not over thinking and just playing IMO

The best games are when he’s under pressure like Clemson last year, LSU last year, some forth quarters here and there when we need to get it together.

When he was throwing dimes against txst I thought maybe he fixed it but looks like he regressed again. Just like Georgia when we needed to go in the 4th he turned it on

I think plateaued is spot on. He’s reached his limits. And I’ll be the first to eat some crow as I never thought he’d even break into the 60% completion range for a season.

Whatever it is, road jitters, performing under pressure, etc. there is no denying he has had some excellent games and been the main reason we won (or almost one for Clemson 2018). But he’s also been a large contributing factor in some losses. At this point he’s still too inconsistent. Not something you expect from a third year starter.

I don’t think jimbo is going to start someone else next year so I guess we will have to hope he has some of the LSU 2018 type performances left in him.

Mond isn't a bad QB, but he isn't the QB WE need. With the defenses we face, we need someone who is accurate and doesn't throw 50/50 jump balls at our receivers. I understand Mond lacked the support of a running game or a good offensive line, but what he showed us this year just wasn't enough. Dude has a knack of going cold for a long time and not creating plays. He also stares down his receivers too much and only starts to read progressions when it is too late into the play (if he even does, which feels like a rarity).

Having said that, I'm not very hopeful about Calzada. In the limited time we saw him, I could see why Mond was the starter. I'm not sure if it was freshman jitters, but he looked exceptionally terrible against UTSA during trash time. I'm not sure what to make of Foster. But if he's third string, then he likely isn't the answer we need. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers (just my speculation) to a G5 program to become a starter.

I highly doubt Jimbo starts Haynes King next year, so my guess is we are stuck with Mond for at least one more year. Not ideal, but it's the best we got for now. The sad thing about that is that I can actually see Mind's stats going down too.

Jerrod Johnson also selfishly played hurt and cost us three games in 2010. Had he taken the time to fully recover, we probably don't lose those 3 games against Okie Lite, Arkansas, and Missouri.

I'd be willing to bet almost anything Mond's stats are better next year. Not because he'll be a lot better, but because the OL could not be worse and he'll face less big time defenses.

It is almost impossible to really judge Mond. No QB that gets hit as much as he does plays well for long. Too many hits ruin QB's. He shouldn't say hut hut before the snap, he should say oh shite - because someone will run free at him almost every play. I don't think he's great, but he takes a beating. Kinda fell sorry for him.

His completion percentage is improving, good to see him finally over 60%. But yard per completion dropped as did total yards and TDs for the season.

Overall he’s improving, but still not quite where we want him to be after completing his 3rd season for a starter.

How much is his own talent and how much is the very bad offensive line? Well that has been and still is being debated.

In completion percentage. 51 < 57 < 61. Stats don’t lie.

Do I think he’s some super awesome QB? No, still has a lot to work on. But if you’re pretending he hasn’t gotten better since his freshman and sophomore years, you’re flat out wrong.

It’s just not as much of an improvement as we were hoping to see from a 4 star highly recruited QB with a “QB whisperer” head coach.
