I have had several conversations with friends in the program over the holidays and feel he is the best bet going forward. Our boosters believe he is going to be a force in this state and will be coming home where he belongs at the end of next year. He can recruit and can put together a cohesive offense - in short, everything Sumlin should have been when we hired him. But Morris also understands the importance of an elite defense, something that took Sumlin three years to understand. Our boosters believe he can assemble a staff that can compete on both sides of the ball.

I had an interesting conversation with a friend and former coach Morris worked underneath several years back who keeps in touch with Morris on a weekly basis. My friend confirmed Morris has turned jobs down and is patiently waiting for A&M to come calling. He isn't interested in other jobs.

I hope you're right, but I have no confidence in our decision makers.

I know the buyout was big, but I almost wish we went after him this year. I assume it's too late now with most of the good assistants hired.

If he kills it at SMU next year, we will just be paying more.

We'll be paying about the same. The only difference is that less of it will go to fat kevin.

Our decision makers have been regionally split for awhile, dating back to the Kyler Murray ordeal.

There is a reason our Dallas recruiting has been lacking. Houston boosters have always been slow to make decisions, but this season was just so painful it will be hard to ignore the obvious decision when we do not meet reasonable expectations next year either. But getting a good freshman quarterback on campus is our top priority (Mond), and everyone is in agreement not to do anything to jeopardize that.

This is where I differ from most. Let sumlin ride it one more year bc we aren't going to have a very good season no matter who coaches us next year. Let Sumlin close this recruiting class and add a little more talent for the next guy

Not to mention Morris hasn't really done shite as a head coach yet. and in his final game of the season, with a chance to make the playoffs, they gave up 75 points to navy.

So while Morris very well may understand that you need to play on both sides of the ball, at the very minimum, it would be nice to see him actually do that consistently in a smaller conference before committing another 4-6 years to a coach...no matter how much he gets it. Even June jones got smu to a bowl game in his second season...even if it was cusa.

Yeah, the easy answer is root for SMU next year so the transition plan is obvious.

Morris basically told Baylor he would only go there if they put a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if momma came calling.

Dude's a stone cold lock if we want him

At this point anybody with half a brain has go to be better than the clown we have running the show now. Despite all the problems we seem to be putting together a decent recruiting class is year so let ol Kevin have one more year and be ready to make a move early December of next year.

And for God's sake, don't over pay and give a huge contract. See what he can do first, I'm thinking like 3 million a year for 4 or 5 years.
