How do you feel? Are you surprised by our record? By our team? By that Fightin Texas Aggie Defense?
(I sure as hell am by that last one)
If you didn't see the 2-2 start coming and mentally prepare for it, then you haven't been a fan long. I fully expected us to be at 4-2 by this point. There are still a lot of question marks left on the schedule. No one we can't beat but no free wins in the SEC. How do you feel?
@USC - W
Bye
@MSU - Toss up
@(KyleFieldEast)Auburn - W
Ole Miss - W
UAB - W
LSU - Toss up
I think we've got a solid chance at 9-3. That defense is looking stout. Just need to clean up the sloppyness and not get so many false starts and the offense would have looked much better against KY. Jimbo has clearly gotten us out of the Sumlin culture, which was a cancer on this team. At this point, it looks like we spent our money well. But it's still too soon to know. This is going to be a fun October. Also, I'm getting really tired of losing to Ole Miss at home. 2014 and 2016 both sucked. We need to right that wrong. And of course get the LSU monkey off our backs. Thinking about traveling to Starkville this year.

Nice surprises: Mond’s improvement, the run defense, the recruiting class
Concerns: Mond’s possible ceiling, our pass defense, the entire Arkansas game
Looking forward: how we finish on signing day, how we finish the season, and how Jimbo reacts to a possible rising Texas

i've been impressed by the defense overall through 6. props to elko. i'm sure some of that is finally playing with an offense that values time of possession, but elko and the defense deserve the credit too.
offensively underwhelmed. mond has had some moments, but hasn't been consistant enough. a lot of this was to be expected given new coach, new scheme, etc., but a lot of the mistakes that are keeping us from being efficient are just unforced errors. we have to clean that up, and hopefully show continued improvement & understanding of the offense as we move forward.
overall, if we can finish with 8 wins or better, and show improvement along the way i'll be extremely pleased with this season. i believe i had this season at anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5, so if we finish with 8 wins or better that would exceed my expectations. However to get to 8-5 we would have to win 3 out of the remaining 5 sec games, and 3 of those are on the road. It's not an impossible task, but will still be a challenge given how close all five of those teams are strength wise.

I know the O-Line gets a lot of flack, but I've been encouraged by that group. Big time improvement from last year. I especially like what they are doing in the run game. I didn't think we would defend the run this well. Our D-line was a strength but they are vastly improved.
I thought we would be better in the secondary. We looked pretty good against Kentucky, so maybe it's just the appearance of facing Bama and Clemson. I assumed when Mond won the starting job over Starkle that the light had come on and his accuracy was way improved. Turns out he is still a pretty flawed passer which is disappointing.
The record is right where I thought it would be. I obviously expected to beat Arkansas by more. My optimism for the rest of the season has more to do with the rest of the teams on our schedule being worse than I thought rather than A&M being better than I thought. I think 9-3 is most likely but 8-4 is more likely than 10-2.

Very very pleased. Not leaving the D on the field most of the game has paid huge dividends already. No drama around players has been nice.
Really excited about the LOS on both sides of the ball. Our offensive line has made a lot of mistakes but I seriously like the direction we are heading.
Have a solid shot at MSU and LSU if Mond has good games, not great. He has Clemson/Bama type great games then we win both but certainly not expecting it.

I was concerned about our corner backs and the depth at linebacker coming into the season. So our problems in pass defense have not surprised me. I am baffled about our inability to get turnovers. Part of this, though, is our defense is now pretty good at getting off the field on 3rd down. We aren't giving up sustained drives. I am overall impressed with out defense. They will be good enough to give us a chance to win every game from here on out. I have confidence in Elko.
It feels like our fans keep expecting us to be this really explosive offensive team that will rack up 40 points or more per game. This is in spite of the fact that Jimbo clearly wants to run the ball, win the TOP battle and keep our defense fresh. Week 9 is gonna roll around and out fans are going to still be hacked off that we didn't light up the scoreboard. It's just not who this team is.
We just don't have the WRs who can scare a defense. We are committing penalties on offense that contribute to stopping drives. I'm a little irritated by the penalties. Our placekicker is in a slump. But the team plays hard, with confidence and thinks they can win.
I think we will grind out 24 - 20 type wins in most of the games from here on out. And I'm fine with that.

One thing to keep in mind about turnovers is opportunities. We only allow our opponent to run <55 plays per game. They have fewer opportunities throw a pick or have a ball knocked loose.

Needs to beat LSU or he should be fired

Been a little better than I expected. I am holding on to full judgment for 2 more years. The future looks bright at the moment. Sustained success and improvement is the goal and that takes time. Overall I like what I see so far, if we don't lose Elko and Jimbo gets the players he wants I expect to see us truly compete. What i've seen so far this season says that's possible.

We are where I expected to be at this point of the season in terms of W’s and L’s. Really wish we could have won that Clemson game ...
Defense is a pleasant surprise, but we need more turnovers.
Offense has looked great at times, pedestrian at others, because of Mond and OL. But I enjoy the new offfensive style and scheme and am estatic to see TE’s becoming important.
Braden Mann should win the Heisman.

Pleased. Record is exactly as expected thus far, but the WAY we've played has me bullish on Jimbo's first year.
Sumlin's Ags lose to Kentucky by 3 scores.

Record is as expected thus far. I think I was projecting a 7-5 for the year but I don’t think it even matters right now.
Fisher, in the span of less than. Hear, has transformed the teams toughness. I’m floored the young men have bought in so whole heartedly. Now, we need a transfer of this ethos into next year where the players hold each other accountable and police themselves.
Sumlin has none of that; he had a group of individuals trying to “get theirs”.
I am thrilled with Jimbo.

Would it be accurate to say that Sumlin had only one team that got better as the season progressed (‘12)? That’s really the only thing I’m looking for this season. And beating fricklsu.

Yup, and that was by accident. No one could have predicted JFF being as good a college QB as he was.

Most can claim the record is where they thought it would prior to the start of the season because beating Kentucky isn't usually that big a deal but this UK squad is a lot better than they've been in a while so I think they've exceeded expectations. No way a Sumlin team from the last 3 years wins this past Saturday night.

If Sumlin was still coaching, there is no way in hell we shut Snell down like that. Snell would have run for at least 150 yards. Kentucky would have won by something like 28 to 17.
Our fans would still be bitching about the QB, but in a loss, not a win.
I guarantee you that Trayveon Williams wouldn't be leading the conference in rushing, either.

We have improved tremendously in many areas, but the reality is that modern football is all about passing efficiency. If you can’t throw the ball efficiently against P5 opponents, statistically it doesn’t matter much what else you do well. Passing efficiency has the highest correlation with winning of any stat.
The bottom line is we’re going to play close games against teams with inferior talent until our passing games improve. We DOMINATED Arkansas and Kentucky on both sides of the ball in terms of the running game and it barely mattered.
