So here we sit at 3-3. Lots of mad fans right now, but let’s be honest, we knew we weren’t beating Clemson on the road and Bama even though we had them at home. Only one I’m disappointed in is losing to auburn at home (we will just pretend barely scraping by Arkansas didn’t happen). Thought we’d be 4-2 halfway through the season.

Where do we finish up? The rest of our schedule looks pretty straight forward now that half the season is over and we know more about all the teams. I don’t think this team has any surprise upsets in them (as in we upset someone, unfortunately I think we could be upset by a lesser team), not the way we’ve played so far this year.

We’ve got, with my guesses.

@ Ole Miss (W)
Miss St (W)
UTSA (W)
USCe (W)
@ Georgia (L)
@ LSU (L)

That still puts us as 7-5, which is worse than last year, but still around most people’s projections before we started the year.

Thoughts? Concerns (USCe)? Any koolaide (Georgia/LSU)?

I think we beat Georgia and whoever we play in a bowl for a nine win season.

Spot on. Offense looks slightly better when we completely abandon the run. Just let Mond take off and call that our running game in 2019.

I think we finish 6-6. Which is going to be really difficult to spin to recruits. And I only care about recruits at this point. The football team is trash.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we split LSU and Georgia

I saw a lot of good things yesterday and after watching the Lsu and Georgia games I believe that we have a shot at both, we will be improving each week.

If people are mad, they’re thinking with their hearts, not heads. 4-2 or 3-3 at this point is reasonable for the talent and schedule we have had.

8-5 with the bowl win or 9-4 is our season. I said this at the start. Our schedule is murder and our team didn’t become world beaters in 24 months since sumlin. Im relatively satisfied with how our team has performed this season vs reasonable expectations.

Once I stopped getting emotionally invested, I started seeing things so much clearer.

I still say mond has issues with staring down receivers, but I sure liked his conviction to finish that game yesterday.

Plumlee is going to run ALL OVER this defense - will be close
MSU is a win, if this team can overcome its issues playing a decidedly inferior team
USCe is a tossup. Hillinski is the real deal
UGA is a tossup. Their OC is pure garbage
LSU is a tossup - I'm not convinced about them at all

Going to be hard to get to 6-6, because only two sure wins left on schedule, but it's possible

Our offense is starting to figure it out. Mond is becoming more aggressive with tucking and running and guys like Wydermeyer and Smith are coming on. Had our offense played against Auburn like they did against Bama we probably win that game.

The defense is what it is this year, the secondary is better than last year but the front seven is much less sound against the run and gap assignments in general.

The rest of this year is just about getting better and evaluating our talent. Almost every player worth keeping will be back next year, and those not worth it will transfer out to make way for much more talented freshmen and sophomores. We have a schedule that sets up perfectly for a 6-0 start next year and need to find out who is a part of the future.

Our problem is the only time we have even a little success running is from under center. We cant run at all out of the gun (our OL isn’t strong enough to run block if they can’t fire out of a three point stance) and it really limits things because teams know we’re either going to pass or attempt a futile run when Mond isn’t under center. It also makes playaction pretty useless.

Right now Jimbo is calling games with a huge chunk of the playbook being unavailable to him. And for all the shite Mond gets, he’s got very little help.

Had this discussion with EKG in another thread about a month ago when I asked how folks would feel about 6-6 vs 8-4 by seasons end.

I predicted the 3 losses and said a loss against Arkansas was possible. While I predicted a loss to State that now may be a win, I predicted a win against South Carolina that now may be a loss. That would be a wash. I predicted losses to LSU and Georgia and still think that is true now, So...

3-3
4-3 @ Ole Miss
5-3 Mississippi State
6-3 UT - SA
6-4 South Carolina
6-5 @ Georgia
6-6 @ Louisiana State

I try not to be a sunshine pumper nor do I usually fall in the pot banger crowd. While my preseason 6-6 pick was lower than most, it had more to do with the SoS this season than Jimbo specifically. Sure, texas can go 10-2 but pretty hollow claim with their SoS. Get through this season and point to next year when 8-4 to 10-2 should be more expected, then if Jimbo is still 6-6 I think the concern is justified.

Just like Arkansas, USC should be considered a win every year until they beat us. We just have their number and even when we don’t play well weird stuff happens and we win.

And the Georgia game was pretty flukey. Georgia doubled their yardage but USC won the TO battle 4-0. You can lose to literally anyone in the FBS if you lose the TO battle by that margin. That could just as easily have been an AAC or MAC school winning in Athens on Saturday with those numbers.

Georgia has a very real playcalling problem, their offense is neutered right now.

We just need to sweep the MS schools and not let UofSC beat us. Do that and this season will be okay. Do that and then upset Lsu or UGA then we’ll change our minds and be happy about this season.

I would love for that to happen, but that has not been our M.O. as a program in the SEC.

We'll drop a game we're supposed to win and lose all the games were supposed to lose.

6-6 is as realistic as it gets.

It’s pretty much what I expected, this season was never going to be special. Look at the roster + injuries and that’s about all you need to know. Find something else to care about until next year

Wouldn’t that still make us 7-5?
