That run defense needs to get fixed. For the love of God, we need to see more than 3 DL on the defense.

DJ Durkin is wasting talent.

Bobby P is a very nice hire. I cannot ever talk or post badly about him after what he did for the alma mater.

While the run defense wasn't good enough, and it was a problem, the overall defense was actually pretty good.

Points per drive:

SEC:

UGA: 1.29 (4 national rank)
Bama 1.65 (15)
UK 1.83 (28)
A&M 1.93 (34)
UT 1.94 (37)
Missouri 1.95 (38)
State 1.96 (39)
LSU 2.09 (50)
TCU 2.21 (61)
Ole Miss 2.24 (65)
Auburn 2.36 (80)
South Carolina 2.40 (86)
Arkansas 2.44 (92)
UF 2.78 (110)
Vandy 2.95 (121)

Under Elko:

2018: 2.10 ppd (61 nationally)
2019: 1.95 ppd (38 nationally)
2020: 1.81 ppd (29 nationally)
2021: 1.28 ppd (4 nationally)

All I see is that he took a good defense and made it worse in his first year.

2021 had Leal, Johnson, Peavy, Clemons, and Hansford. All very good front 7 guys with a ton of experience. 2022 replaced then with freshmen and guys with less experience, but probably more talent.

Elko is better than Durkin, but we were going to take a step back on defense in 2022 regardless. We should improve in 2023 due to the experience the young guys got in 22. Now let's get a legit ILB out of the portal.

A&M bounces back this year for its best season since 2020. Petrino calling plays with Weigman under center and Ainias returning will make 2022 seem like a fluke.

We're all hoping for that

I guess I do find it interesting that he said he "plans on" Bobby calling plays rather than "Bobby is" calling plays...

Edit: I’ll tell y’all what I thought about today’s practice tomorrow morning. I’m a bit preoccupied so I can’t right now, but I’ll try to tomorrow.

Alright so here are the spring practice comments I promised I would give in the morning but I didn't...better late than never I suppose

Enjoy!

#1 - The offense looked way more fluid yesterday than last year. Chin Pubes would obviously love to sunshine pump that shite to the ground but honestly, there was a major leap in offensive quality yesterday.

Players seem pretty happy with the offense Petrino is trying to run, let's see how this goes over the next few days.

#2 - The RB room will be very interesting to watch. With Rueben Owens (former 5-star recruit) enrolling early to join us, the heat is pretty hot. IMO, Rueben is going to be redshirted or at least not have a lot of game time, but I think of the few glances we see of him, expect some magic to happen.

I have believe in Marquell to get the job done in the RB room, and he is given a very talented one. I'm a big "run the frickING ball" guy so I'm stocked to see where he goes with this.

IMO the list of running backs should be:
Amari
Leveon
Rueben.

#3 - Watch the secondary. WATCH THE SECONDARY.

Heard the WR transfer from UTEP is struggling in practices and looking at transferring back to there. That’s not great, we need depth.

Insiders said we were gonna raid the portal back and we only ended up getting 3-4 guys from it so that was disappointing.

TBH, I think it has something to do with Ainias coming back. It could also be because he'd be a little bit more home-sick aswell. I'm also hoping he stays because he has potential + depth

Typical sunshine-pumping from TexAgs

To be back at practice was exciting just to be able to compete again. The last time I competed was against Arkansas, and that was a while back. To be out there with the guys and be able to watch Jimbo Fisher be more of a coach, it was interesting to see everything unfold. The speed that everyone was playing with and the excitement and competitiveness everyone was playing with, it was crazy. I loved the energy. I was excited. That energy carried on throughout the entire practice. The end was fun. Instead of splitting up into two fields, everyone was practicing on one field, and it was live. I’m definitely liking the energy so far
