So how would we be better positioned to succeed with worse players?

Disgaree, unless "better" is defined solely as "more relevant".
We are absolutely more relevant on the national stage than we have ever been. The mistake some make is believing the lie that any press is good press.

Malik, Lodge, Little, Hudson, even Daylon and kyler... all that went down before the QB transfer stuff became a problem. And it all stemmed from an inability to produce on the field and control things off.
Fair enough. I can't deny more win 2013-2015 would have us in better shape right now.

Auburn is just as conservative as A&M, and they're miles ahead of us as a program, because they understand big boy football
Meh, before Cam Auburn wandered in the desert for decades with varying amounts of success. They got screwed in 2004 because no one considered them to be a "power" at the time.
I see Auburn as basically an A&M where their Johnny won a national title. Up until recently I would have also given them credit for not being as stupid with contract extensions, but given that Malzahn just got one it makes me question how much they understand "big boy football."

When was the last time we had a better national rep, in your opinion?

We are toxic only in your mind

First of all, the 2012 and 2013 classes were complete flops. Second, better coaching could do more with worse players. Finally, our reputation for dysfunction, harboring poor behavior and being synonymous with an infamous alcoholic NFL trainwreck might be different.

Take away Kyler and Kyle and we have no bad press
You are full out melting and I'm still not sure why

Better in terms of less negative? Any point between the Sherrill stuff blowing over and the Summer of 2013.

Kyle
Kyler
Hill
Manziel
Claiborne
Golden
Tate (and the subsequent Twitter melt/our shocking decommit rate in general)
The recruiting narrative Texas is successfully pushing
And so on

In the last 60 years, we have 2 top 5 finishes. Auburn has NINE!
We have 8 top 10 finishes. Auburn has 18.

Like Chavis? Mazzone? Turner?

Uh, that period when our AD went bankrupt and we had to loan money from the school and they fired our school president because she wouldn't sign off on it was a WAY worse than right now. WAY worse.

All the national articles and media discussions of our turmoil completely discredits that.

I'm skeptical of Mazzone, but sure lets go ahead and say he's a stud. If Sumlin is a poor CEO and needs established, elite coordinators making top dollar at every position why are we paying him $5 million? Any number of marginal coaches could do the same and with better character.
Great coaches generally get up and coming assistants jobs. We hire great assistants for top dollar to save our coaches job.

You know where that originated, those forces aren't just fabricated Aggie paranoia. But in a whisp of wind those perceptions change
Far from toxic

Were you actually around for the Fran/Sherman eras? We were an absolute joke. Even during the final days of RC, we were nobodies.

Have you seen the assistants salary list for Bama?

None of that had any impact at a national level. Literally nobody outside of A&M knew or cared. Ask the rant how many know about this vs know about Kyler, Allen, Sumlin's alcoholism, Manziel's pandering, etc.
The issue here is national perception.

We were irrelevant, now we're a national punchline. People are holding our program up as a means of showing "Well,it could be worse".
Give me the former
