It would be fun to shitpost about how we have a national championship winning football coach and a final four baskerball coach. So at least it would have that going for it

Even though he’s not our coach anymore, can we not make “shake” jokes. It’s classless and it’s something tu fans would do.

Anyone connected to the Barone era needs to be put on the DO NOT HIRE list. sheesh what a miserable time to follow Aggie Basketball.

I actually like Frank Martin. I don't know if he is the answer, but I like his style.

A change is happening. My source who is very close to the MBB program and TMF, has indicated that Woodward was given direction some time back to work on the "Jimbo Fisher of College Basketball". Money has been raised or identified to cover the $15-18M in transition costs (BK buyout, new coach buyout, carrying costs of MBB salary differential from BK to new coach for 3-4 years until new revenue sources kick in, plus additional assist coach and program costs). We will pursue the best coach we can procure on a multi-year $4M+ contract. Some of the interested candidates would surprise you.

My source indicates an emergency TMF Board meeting was held Monday morning, the costs approved, and Woodward is free to move forward. This source is in a position to know and also someone who is ponying up some of the funds.

For anyone doubting our donor support, TMF support or Woodward intentions, does spending $15-18M to ignite our MBB program satisfy your needs?

Texas A&M intends to be championship quality in every program we compete in. It may not happen in the exact sequence you want or the speed you want, but Woodward will build the top athletic program in the country and our donors are solidly behind him.

Now, let's rally around the program, wish the Kennedy's well (and our assistants and basketball staff), and honor the accomplishments of the past 8 years. All of us wish it would have ended differently. There were some positives we should acknowledge and celebrate. There were also many low points, which ultimately are driving the change. But BK is a class act, let's wish him well, and hope/pray for his health going forward.

Gig 'em!

Part of the reason this is believable is because whoever wrote it writes like an adult. It's a great tone. I hope he's right!

Of course its believable. Yes its a message board but you can tell by the way its written that the message is sincere. There were a lot of posts like this leading up to Jimbo's hiring.

In other words, not written by Billy Liucci or Olin Buchanan.

I was there for the Barone and Watkins years. It was a strange experience to go to games in our big, shiny, brand new Reed Arena and the place was empty enough to hear Melvin and the assistants yelling at the players.

It's really interesting how much basketball standards and expectations have grown since you and I were in school.

From? a very young? age, Brent? Williams? knew he wanted? to be a basketball? coach.? When he? enrolled? as? a freshman at Navarro?? College in Corsicana, Texas, he realized he wasn’t good enough to play for the team. So he signed on to be a student assistant. His energy was so untamed that one of the coaches started calling him “Buzz.”

The nickname stuck, and it is altogether fitting in the current context of Williams’ career. Williams, 46, is in his fifth year as the coach at Virginia Tech, where he has the 16th-ranked Hokies on the verge of reaching their third consecutive NCAA tournament. The program went to the tournament just once in the previous 20 seasons, so Williams has as much job security as a man in profession can expect. And yet, for much of the season, Williams has generated plenty of buzz on college basketball’s underground rumor mill. For months the birdies have chirped a pressing question: Is Williams destined to return to his Lone Star roots?

That buzz got a lot louder on Friday, when Texas A&M announced the firing of Billy Kennedy following a 14-18 season. That was just the latest domino to fall in what promises to be one of the most active coaching carousels we have seen in years. Washington State, UNLV and George Washington also jettisoned their coaches this week, and UCLA parted ways with Steve Alford back in December. There are more to come, and soon.

As you can imagine, the rumor mill has been buzzing with increasing intensity this week. I’ve been working the phones the past few days to check in with those who are in the know. It is not easy to separate fact from rumor in this underworld, given that the people who know the most tend to talk the least. But here are the questions the people I’ve been talking to are waiting to be answered.

The Buzz Williams question. Williams is not an easy guy to track. He does not use an agent, preferring instead to negotiate his own contracts. He’s a lot more qualified to do this than you might think. For many years now, Williams has made a habit of collecting contracts signed by other coaches and studying all of the clauses. For all of his charisma in front of the TV camera, Williams likes to keep things close to his finely tailored vest. That has been especially true this winter.

Still, the wide expectation among college basketball insiders is that Williams will be the next coach at Texas A&M. This would not be as unconventional a move as the one he made five years ago when he left Marquette for Virginia Tech. Texas A&M would be able to pay Williams more money, and it would presumably be easier for Williams to get A&M into the top tier of the SEC than it has been for him to get Virginia Tech into similar standing in the ACC. But the main appeal is the chance to go home again. Williams grew up in Van Alstyne, Texas, which is less than 300 miles from College Station. He later worked as an assistant at Texas A&M Kingston, where he met his wife, Corey, and he spent two seasons as an assistant at Texas A&M under Billy Gillespie. Nothing is certain this time of year, but if Williams turns this down, a lot of folks around the sport will be quite surprised.

I think the best thing about buzz is that, unlike the other options, I feel confident that he would be a lifer

Don't know if we could do much better than Buzz without paying someone else an embarrassing amount.
