Stop trying to tell us a jar of warm piss is lemonade. I know you hate BK but this would be an incredibly uninspired hire that wouldn't come close to being a true upgrade. It's rearranging the deck chairs at best.

Jesus. Was I really at school during maybe the all time high for Aggie b-ball? This is just sad. That place was packed and rocking for a solid few years, I wish we could get that back.

It seems like exactly the kind of hire you float when BMAs are being tight pursed.
"With that kind of commitment from you, I suppose we can get a Tony Barone protege."

We used to pack Reed. I camped out for ticket pulls and showed up an hour early to get into big games.

I think people remember the big games that we filled the arena for, but forget the other 15 or so games that reed arena was maybe half full. Which is what it was like 2016 and 2018

I don’t believe that’s true. Preseason games, yes. Once we got back from winter break, no. I remember the debates on Texags during those years. The games that had really bad attendance that shouldn’t have were few and far between, especially from students. Our record at home during that time was among the top in the nation as well.
Posted on 3/12/19 at 7:31 pm to WestCoastAg
It wasn’t a sellout weekly, but we probably averaged 4-5k more during the prime years vs now. That’s extremely significant for an arena that holds 12.5k.

I cant comment cause I didnt follow A&M bball back then obviously. I just thought that Turgeon left for Maryland and basically called out our lack of consistent attendance and then I saw that in 2016 and 2018. But I'll have to take yalls word for it and maybe I'm wrong cause I wasnt there

I fully expect us to hire a mid major coach. I just hope it’s a younger one with some upside and not the one tmc posted.
The basketball atmosphere was pretty damn good when I was in school (07-11). The Big 12 helped that a lot though, the SEC really doesn’t help for developing our hoops program. Kentucky is the only school that moves the needle, we had KU Texas OU and Baylor when I was in school.
You will get a random potential matchup like Tennessee would have been this year had we been good, but there just isn’t consistency

I was a student from 07-11, and it’s incorrect to say we used to regularly pack Reed. The student section was only full against Texas, a couple times against Baylor and Kansas, once against OU and usually on senior day for the last home game. Probably no more than 13-14 total “packed” houses in the 5 seasons I regularly went to games.
Now it was MUCH different than today (largely because football was concurrently awful) but we were never a great or unique crowd with any consistency.

I really question some of those numbers given some of the attendances we announced this year

But does he come with the nun???? I'm willing to give him a chance if they package both of them.

I call complete B.S. on the Porter Moser thing. No way he's considered. We would hold onto BK before we make that hire.
Posted on 3/12/19 at 9:06 pm to 85AustinAg
The only coaching hires that will get me excited are Buzz and Eric Mussleman which means I’m going to be completely disappointed with our Porter Moser hire and I’ll continue to not care about our basketball program.

I like what this guy is saying so I choose to believe him
quote:
A change is happening. My source who is very close to the MBB program and TMF, has indicated that Woodward was given direction some time back to work on the "Jimbo Fisher of College Basketball". Money has been raised or identified to cover the $15-18M in transition costs (BK buyout, new coach buyout, carrying costs of MBB salary differential from BK to new coach for 3-4 years until new revenue sources kick in, plus additional assist coach and program costs). We will pursue the best coach we can procure on a multi-year $4M+ contract. Some of the interested candidates would surprise you.
My source indicates an emergency TMF Board meeting was held Monday morning, the costs approved, and Woodward is free to move forward. This source is in a position to know and also someone who is ponying up some of the funds.
For anyone doubting our donor support, TMF support or Woodward intentions, does spending $15-18M to ignite our MBB program satisfy your needs?
Texas A&M intends to be championship quality in every program we compete in. It may not happen in the exact sequence you want or the speed you want, but Woodward will build the top athletic program in the country and our donors are solidly behind him.
Now, let's rally around the program, wish the Kennedy's well (and our assistants and basketball staff), and honor the accomplishments of the past 8 years. All of us wish it would have ended differently. There were some positives we should acknowledge and celebrate. There were also many low points, which ultimately are driving the change. But BK is a class act, let's wish him well, and hope/pray for his health going forward.
Gig 'em!

The "Jimbo Fisher" of college basketball is Jay Wright.

Jay Wright is more like the dabo. If anything, jimbo is more like the cal
