Just rewatched the '86 Cotton Bowl win over Auburn on SECN. That goal line stand against Bo! Ah, what memories and what a turning point in A&M football.
How great to once again hear the names of Holland, Kelm, Howard, Roper, Saddler, Bullitt, Bryant, Corrington, ... Murray (despite what would happen later), Toney, Vick, Woodside, Nelson, Walker, Harris, Bernstine, Williams, Cheek, Wylie ...

Here's a doomsday question for you.
Since the National Anthem is played while the teams are still in the locker room at Kyle, what would happen if the unthinkable happens and members of the team kneel during the Spirit of Aggieland? How fast would Kyle Field empty?

Im not sure how that would be a protest against police brutality unless they’re specifically targeting campus PD but even that is a stretch. I think the olds would be pissed and the young ins would be sympathetic and understanding.

Take a knee. Don't take a knee. I don't care and no one else should. People need to learn how to disagree and get over themselves. No one is holier than thou.

It wouldn't bother me if that is what they choose to do. I suspect quite a few of our players have some strong views on what's been happening. Probably not in response to the TAMU police department but towards the wider society to which they belong.
I suspect Jimbo has already discussed this with leaders on the team as to what they might want to do. People are kidding themselves if they think college football players this fall aren't going to be making their thoughts known loud and clear - and possibly in some ways that might make you uncomfortable. That's kind of the point.

If they do that during Spirit, then they're essentially protesting me and every other Aggie who came before me and ever will.
At that point, I will hope they lose every game and will root against them until such time that every player on the roster and every member of the coaching staff is no longer on campus.
You have a right to protest, just as I have a right to turn my back on you, abandon you, and let you rot.

Nah. I think you just got too much time in your hands and are overanalyzing something that isn't there. The mental gymnastics required to make this leap is impressive, yet a bit disturbing.

This is the problem with modern day politics. "I'm right. You're wrong. Therefore I hope your life is full of failures and you trip face first into a bag of dicks."
Learn how to disagree and move the frick on.

You do you. Just seems very childish to get worked up over your own mental gymnastics.

You say this
but then follow it up by saying this
Basically telling me that I am not allowed to disagree nor am I allowed to make the conscious choice to take my time, money, attention and support elsewhere, which is your way of saying:

What I'm telling you is that you're being petty. Not only are you fabricating a scenario that will likely not happen, but you're also giving that non-existent scenario a "meaning". But worst of all, you're acting as if this scenario is going to have huge ramifications on our school if we allow it to happen.
You need to grow up and let these boys do whatever they want. If they kneel or don't kneel, who cares? It definitely doesn't warrant a dumbass post about how you're going to do this or that if those boys exercise their 1st amendment right. There's plenty of political shite we all saw at A&M that we disagreed with or didn't like, but you don't see us making posts about them.
-----
Also, let's stop kicking the can. You know damn well that every school has at least one athlete that supports kneeling during the anthem (and would probably do it if given the chance). So stop posturing and put your money where your mouth is;
QUIT WATCHING COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND FIND ANOTHER HOBBY.
If you post anything related to college football on this board (or any of the other boards around here), then you're just full of shite.
Ball is in your court

That’s the thing, many of us want to watch sports and don’t want to get a face full of politics while doing so. I personally wouldn’t kneel during the national anthem (and I don’t think they’ll kneel during the spirit, that’s just getting worked up over nothing), but people have a right to free speech and peacefully assemble so whatever floats your boat.
It’s just annoying that so many of us want to watch sports and escape from the daily drama surrounding current events but aren’t able to because everybody has got to make their own statement.
And college is a different animal than the NFL, I fully supported them black balling Kapernick. As an employer, if an employee does something you don’t like, you fire them. Ol Kap was free to protest, but all of the league was free to not want his baggage that came with him and decline to sign him. However, something tells me after recent events somebody will virtue signal and sign him to a squad this fall so they can appear to be the good guy.

I just don't care anymore. Just wanna watch football

Two things:
- if it’s the right of players to kneel, it’s the right of fans to boo them for said kneeling. If you want to politicize the sport, be ready to get the response. I have a feeling you’d be seeing red if the stadium booed a player who was kneeling.
- the “if you don’t like it, stop watching/participating/go make your own” is a terrible argument that you would have wailed about when you heard it used the exact same way against civil rights activists in the 60s and 70s. The fact is that the only people subjected to this argument today are white men. But if those people went and made a right wing club, or male only club, or whites only organization (instead of an NAACP) you’d blow an artery.
No exclusion on race is right. No special privilege on race or political belief is right.

Definitely. But it's just childish to stop doing business with or terminate your affiliation with something just because a fellow member/buyer has a different belief than yours. It's asinine. You'll end up a hermit if you follow that ideology.
(Never mind that he conjured this entire scenario in his head and immediately gave it a meaning before it could even happen

That's CGSC argument, not mine. I'm just helping him follow his virtues. It's too bad though...we're all going to miss his hard hitting analysis on Aggie Football.

If you want an actual protest message (instead of a hypothetical one) so you can get busy turning your back on Texas A&M athletes, members of the track and field team have released a video supporting the protests and requesting your support.
They aren't playing "The Spirit of Aggieland", "The Star Spangled Banner" or your favorite country song in the background. And nobody is kneeling. So whatever imaginary apocalyptic scenario you can dream up has been safely averted for now.
Texas A&M Track and Field - Message of Unity
Yeah, it is your right to tell them to shut up and dribble, tackle or carry a baton. Probably isn't gonna work. But you can do that.

The Southern Poverty Law Center doesn't even consider Sully a confederate monument.

That should end the stupid argument once and for all.
