Shelby Metcalf - Made the dance 5 times in 26 seasons (20%), with 2 Sweet 16s.

Billy Gillispie - 3 seasons, 2 Dances (66.67%), 1 Sweet 16 (33.33%)

Mark Turgeon - 4 seasons, 4 Dances (100%)

Billy Kennedy - 8 seasons, 2 Dances (25%), 2 Sweet 16s (25%)

Tony Barone -

Melvin Watkins -

I am hoping he is more Gillispie/Turgeon than Kennedy/Metcalf.

He loved to get drunk in a booth at the Fox and Hound and hit on college girls. But I guess that is probably normal for college coaches.

My one personal interaction was asking him during one of his shows at Wings N More if he would consider coaching the football team to toughen them up and he got pissed that I was disparaging Coach Fran.

Billy was a Fran defender?

I took it less as him defending Fran and more as a corny "how dare you talk bad about a coach" defense of his profession

But who knows

It's more professional courtesy. You don't expect Jimbo Fisher to badmouth Childress do you?

That makes me sad, no more Fox and Hound anymore.

Do you think Fran and Childress have had similar success?

Would a better comparison be Fran and Kennedy?

As much as I didn't think much of Kennedy as a coach, its still pretty insulting.

The point is that, if I were the head coach of a program, I would react the same way if someone asked me if I needed to "fix" the team that another one of my colleagues at the same school was coaching.

In fairness to Metcalf, he had several tournament worthy teams that did not go due to the field being much smaller in those days.
