I'm celebrating the win with some poor man's pappy. First time ever making.

Hill was very good, but so was Pepperdine's ace. I feel like we're lucky to win this with a couple of missed opportunities at 2nd base. I'm enthusiastic about facing their 11.25 ERA guy tomorrow. (And yeah, I know that's after one game, but still... hit that guy early and hard.)

We have no idea what this means. Poor man's Pappy Van Winkle? Is there such a thing?

Exactly.

It's a mix of Wellers 12 and Wellers Antique. They're supposed to have a similar mash bill. The Wellers Antigue has a higher proof to bring the 12 up to Old Rip levels. IDK if it tastes like pappy or not (its been many many moons since i've had some) but its quite good.

I have a business associate living in Kentucky who, once he learned I was jealous about his bourbon (which I can't get here outside of a very few bars in the state), has relentlessly given me shite about the joys of Pappy Van Winkle. Because that's how my friends roll.

For me Knob Creek is my standby, Blanton's if I'm celebrating.

I'd probably go a few different ways at the Knob price point, but Blanton's is great. I've gotten into it the last few years. Its a fun hobby.

What do y'all suggest for a mid-range go-to whiskey? I've recently been drinking Woodford Reserve Rye (I forget the age, probably lowest) and Maker's, but I feel like I could probably do better. I usually drink it straight with an ice ball.

First you have to define "mid-range"! Blanton's is something like $48/750 ml here, roughly twice as much as my go-to Knob Creek, but if I'm feeling like I have money to throw away it is worth it. But that price pales in comparison to my and Farmer's dream-bourbon, Pappy. $80/bottle for 15-yr old, up to $250/bottle for 23-yr old, or you can pay $3000 for their "Family Reserve" 23-yr old. All 750 ml. And that's if you can get it. I cannot in Mississippi. IF YOU CAN, THEN YOU SUCK. Sorry, but it is true.

At Blanton's price I'd pick Blanton's without hesitation. It's good. At Knob Creek's price there are several good options. Bulleit, Elijah Craig, Buffalo Trace, Four Roses are all good. None of those will rot your gut. I haven't tried Woodford Reserve but hear it's good. Wild Turkey is the only one I'd try to talk anybody out of that I have tried. Tastes fine, but will eat your innards.

For ~25-30
Eagle Rare (my goto)
Four Roses Small Batch
Buffalo Trace
Evan Williams Single Barrel
Elijah Craig Small Batch (it used to be a 12 year )

For ~40-50
Four Roses Single Barrel
Willet
Noah's Mill
Rowan Creek
Old Forester 1870 or 1920 Prohibition
In this range, but very hard to find
Elmer T Lee
Stagg Jr (lots of heat!)
Wellers 12

White Wales
Rip Van Winkle
Pappy Van Winkle
Any from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection

The ultimate bourbon - Pappy 25, only 710 bottles

I've never seen it on a shelf. I had someone ship it to me who found it.

Another pitcher hitting corners with the breaking stuff. We might be in for a long day. He's stay efficient even with 4 Ks already.

These no-account assholes can play baseball. A couple of really good defensive plays there.

Without baserunning errors it wouldn't be Aggie baseball.

So much for a 11.25 ERA! 9 Ks by this a-hole.
