Season is just around the corner so lets get this started.

Can we defend our title?

Is it our year?

Or just another to watch someone else dogpile.

Don't have high expectations for us this year like last, but I think we will solidly be in a regional. You never know once we get to that point. Pitching staff should be fun to watch

Agree with this. We have made a regional for 10 years in a row. That should be our minimum expectation. We have to replace a ton on offense. If guys don't step up, then we're in for a long, long season. But we return some good arms in Hill, Killkenny, Larkins, and Martin. Plus it appears we have some quality arms coming in like Cole, Doxakis, & Drabble.

hey farmer

I saw a thread on TA Baseball about BBP expansion. Have you seen the schematics yet?

Skimming the thread now. I have not seen anything draw up. Just a few rumors here and there.

A few highlights on page 1. The next 9 pages are arguing about empty seats and nonsense.

quote:

Talked to a assistant coach recently and the expansion to BB Park is happening. Somewhere close to 9 million in expansions. Outfield concourse, grilling setups in outfield, outfield seating, the works. I believe he said it will be at 8,000 capacity. Money already at hand, Childress just wants to be nice and have the softball field and track facility built first.

The OP

quote:

I've heard that the 3rd base berm will be transformed into seating. Why anybody thought that taking seats out and replacing it with berms for a sport that goes from February-May was a smart idea is beyond me.

Hop

The removal of the 3rd base berm is basically what I have been preaching for the last few years. I am also all in on a partyish area in the OF that either sells or allows alcohol. I don't think we need a ton of seating out there. New seats in place of the berm and an OF area could push the capacity up to over 8k with permanent seating around 6k. Seems just right.

this was my take as well. I skimmed the thread and it was all horseshite I don't care about.

Was hoping we could actually talk about what we plan to do rather than argue about what has already been done and why.

I'm not sure I buy the OP comment that the money is already in hand but RC wants to wait on softball/track. That's been the AD stance for a bit, but I doubt RC agrees with it or is making the call. And if the money is in hand, it should be a go. The point of Softball/Track first is those are AD priorities for fundraising, not to frick over other sports.

I think I recall the same OP post on here before. He wasn't exactly a quality poster. But he's not the first I've seen reference it. Hop basically confirms part of it, he's pretty trusted.

Now the money in hand, waiting on softball, etc doesn't exactly pass the smell test. We'll see. The type of renovations needed at Olsen are minor and would be done easily in the offseason with interfering softball or track.

BTW softball and track both are going to be amazing. I'd put our facilities up against any college across the board. The only 'meh' one right now is Reed.

Yes please, all of this. The only thing our baseball atmosphere lacks is that OF area.

Generally during Spring Training every year I re-read Ball Four as a kick off to the season.

noticed yesterday Amazon has added the kindle version for free if you have Prime. I own a hardcopy but figured having it on the Kindle can be handy. Just figured I'd pass along

Yikes, the student section / general admission has shrunken significantly.

But apparently, season tickets sold out so they shouldn't be empty if people actually use their seats or sell them. Guess if you want seats for a decent weekend game, you'll need to be there when the gates open or earlier.

that's unfortunate. I know they want the money, but I think limiting GA has long term implications (obv expansion could fix).

If students can't get into the games, they won't follow the team as much and won't be long term fans after graduation. IMO the best way to grow the fanbase for minor sports is to make it as easy as possible for students to go.
