That both Auburn and Bama have to claim “Championships” that they never actually earned?!? Didn’t know it was this easy to just “expand your football resume”
………………………………
Both the Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide have expanded their football resumes by retroactively claiming national championships recognized by various historical selectors.
Auburn's Championship Claims
In August 2025, Auburn athletic director John Cohen announced that the program expanded its claimed national championships from five up to a total of nine titles, following a historical review that incorporates designations from official NCAA-recognized selectors.
• Previously Claimed Titles: 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993, 2010 (Note: AP Poll national championships were only won in 1957 and 2010).
• Newly Added Claims (August 2025): 1910, 1914, 1958, and 2004
• 1910 & 1914: Early-era Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association recognitions.
• 1958: Based on cumulative weekly poll points despite LSU winning the AP and UPI trophies.
• 2004: Honoring an undefeated 13–0 season in which Auburn was left out of the BCS National Championship Game (which featured USC and Oklahoma).
Alabama's Championship Claims
Alabama has long set a precedent in college football by claiming 18 national championships, a practice that includes multiple historical and consensus titles as well as a few disputed or retroactive claims (such as the 1941 and 1966 seasons), mirroring the historical subjectivity of pre-playoff poll eras.
The NCAA official record book acknowledges select consensus selectors for both programs, though critics often view these retroactive additions as modern PR and recruiting tools.

You KNOW Auburn was the best team in ‘93 and ‘04 (if you’re old enough to remember those undefeated seasons with defense that would absolutely crush the opponent’s soul).

BAMA doesn't claim '66, but they should, and that would be a three-peat.
Got screwed in a couple other years as well by yankee AP/UPI pukes.

Its all about UofA.
Football is really all they have. So now that their program is cratering, they have nothing left.

Bama got screwed for several reasons...
1) Did not play a single top 10 team during the regular season whereas Notre Dame and Michigan State played each other in the last game of the season.
2) Final rankings came out before the bowl game... Therefore, Bama's impressive victory over #6 Nebraska.
3) Alabama fatigue and the fact that nobody had ever won three in a row.
4) George Wallace.

Vince Lombardi was asked how it felt to be the best team in the world after winning the Super Bowl and he replied, I don't know we haven't played Alabama.

Bama doesn’t claim 66. 1977 either for that matter. That 1941 you can question but those awarded after the regular season are legit because they did it that way then. Notre Dame didn’t go to bowl games until 1970 so they had to award after regular season. People conveniently forget notre Dame caused that. Before the AP poll the winner of the Rose Bowl was national champ. Just because you don’t like it or think it was right doesn’t change the fact that it was awarded. Now auburns claims of 1983, 2004 are dumb. In the poll era they won neither of those.
