Yikes.

"This is bush league:" Oxford coach Keith Etheredge said new Tennessee staff has pulled offer to longtime WR commit Roc Taylor one day before National Signing Day. #alpreps
Hard to believe they can even be choosy with recruits right now.

Taylor got a blessing in disguise.
quote:

“He’s just weighing his options right now,” Etheredge said. “We should know something by later this evening. He will be on a full ride and someone will get a great player and a great young man. The Lord works in mysterious ways. This was part of His plan and whatever His plan is will be divine. I just hate this happened to a kid who was so loyal the whole time.”

Kind of sucks for the kids how schools can do this but the kids have to get NCAA approval to get out of a LOI if the head coach they committed to is no longer there

Its a completely different staff, they're still hiring coordinators. This guy had the option to sign back in December. If that kid would have opted to sign somewhere else that late no one would have given a shite.

May Tennessee continue to be a flaming dumpster fire for decades to come

It’s a pretty bold move to burn bridges at one of the better football programs in Alabama.

Short of hiring another Gump - what blue chip prospect was UT going to steal from Alabama and Auburn out of Alabama that isn’t some Vol legacy or something?

I mean, I get what you are saying, but Tennessee obviously could get players of Roc Taylor's caliber, but they won't be able to going forward. The coach in the article sounded pretty upset and like he wasn't going to forget it.

I mean, stuff like this happens from time to time, but it can come back to bite you sometimes, too. I think, unless y'all have some stud waiting in the wings to take his place, UT would have been better off biting the bullet and keeping the kid.

Wow, Tennessee burning bridges with coaches is probably not the most intelligent idea

Bad look letting the guy know on signing day eve. No issue with them moving on but they should’ve let him know earlier.

Ok well then sign in the early period if that’s where you want to go

Not saying it’s not shitty on the schools part but the kid could have signed the paper and locked in his spot. This door swings both ways

A bird in the hand and what not

I don’t think UT let him sign because they were concerned about him qualifying. Maybe they thought another month and a half would bring some clarity.

Again, the new staff has every right to do this. But do it earlier.

UT 247 said the previous staff hadn’t planned on signing him either. Hadn’t been in touch for a while.

I will say that his HS coach should have been more mindful of this possibility since things have apparently been quiet with UT since before early NSD.

Since the implementation of the early signing period, almost all of a coaches first class flames out once they get on campus.

UT would’ve been better off taking the kid and just letting him hit the portal if it didn’t work out. I actually think pulling the scholarship offer will be better for the kid.

That's not a great way to go about trying to change that trend.

No he didn't. His grades are suspect. The VQ mods have long said Pruitt's staff wasn't going to take him in the early signing period and the thought was that they were also going to advise him to look elsewhere. His grades are still suspect, which is likely why he chose Memphis.
