It's not a popular one because it's not a particularly good one. You've always put too much emphasis on size equating style. TJ Yeldon was 6-1, 220 last season and he had more scat back plays than he did power back ones. Scat back =/= cannot take a beating up the gut.
Terry Grant wasn't a recruited or signed back by Saban, he was meant to be a complementary back in Shula's offense. He did have problems running up the gut in '07, but he also had injury problems going into almost every season at the Capstone.
I've already spoken on Hart, he has done nothing to prove he is or isn't anything other than injury prone. He tore his ACL in a practice and then his other the next year fielding a punt. He went down before the defender even got to him.
Tyren Jones at the very least showed up at 200, and that's not a finite weight for his career or even this season. He's not expected to be a top 3 option, but none of the freshman are expected to be. That's not to say he won't play, which he very well could from summer reports.
I think you're stat scouting a bit too much. He's not going to Auburn so it's understandable, but Tyren Jones isn't what you believe he is. He's not a scat back, complementary back, or anything like that.
While a "Saban Back" may not be a scat back, it's definitely not just a power back either. It's more about the nuances of the position coupled with talent.
I think this conversation is even more off base when it comes to the subject of this thread. To bring up this, is no different than any other straw grasping that opposing fanbases are shooting down in here. Which seems to be Carvell's point of making that statement...

Michael Carvell is the only person who gets paid to cover college football/recruiting that I can think of who would ever send a tweet like that. He must have a relative high up in the AJC; only way I can figure how he got hired.

This is true. It was definitely not what I expected.

If he doesn't end up getting a DC promotion at Auburn, I see him pulling the same schtick.
This has pretty much been the rap on Garner since the 90's. SUPERIOR recruiter, meh on X's & O's. Gets butthurt when he doesn't get the promotion he wants, and starts looking at other jobs. He needs to just realize that he is on any given staff to recruit. Nothing more, nothing less.

I communicate with Tyren Jones' track coach on a regular basis.....and I can assure you that Jones has not quit the Bama team.
The kid has impressed the Upperclassman (ie. AJ McCarron has Jones running some 7 on 7 reps with the 1st team due to how impressive he's been in running routes, knowing the check-downs, and catching the ball) and coaches with his knowledge and work ethic. He's doing S&C under Cochran and came to camp at 5'9", 210 pounds......down from 215 as he lost some weight in early Spring due to broken jaw.
He's running some 7 on 7 reps with the 1st team, has been the most impressive RB in the RB drills (ie. cones, ladder, etcs)due to having the best, quickest footwork. From what I've heard from 3 different sources.....Jones has been the most impressive of all the freshmen on campus in terms of 7 on 7, the weightroom, and knowing the playbook.
Tyren has measured 5'9 1/2" by Bama not sure if that was barefoot or in shoes........but at "the least" he's 5'8" barefoot....probably more between 5'8 1/2 -5'9".
Here's a good article on the ideal RB height for those saying the kid is too short too play RB at Bama. Not sure how guys like Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice, Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Doug Martin can excel in college and the NFL at approximate the same height/weight as Jones.....yet Jones is "too small" to play in Saban's system. Dee Hart is 187-190 pounds.....Tyren Jones is 210-215. Pretty significant difference in weight...
Ideal RB Height/Size
Article goes into detail in terms of the "optimal" height and height/weight ratio(ie. BMI).

I am definitely the most excited about Tyren Jones as far as our recent crop of RBs go. Tenpenny could be a stud as well.

Jones went to Walton HS which is richy rich and if he has an entitlement attitude coming form that part of Cobb Co...he may not put in the work.
You really should STOP speculating. I know Tyren's dad and have seen him training his 12 year old daughter (Tyren's sister). She happens to the be the fastest 12 year old girl IN THE WORLD. Yes, I said world as she holds close to 10 age group World Records in events including the 100m & 200m dashes, 80m hurdles, the Long Jump, and the Pentathlon. I'm a health & fitness junkie.......and as a grown man I was impressed by how hard this 12 year old was working running sets of 200m and 400m dashes in which she had to hit certain times....or run it again.
Tyren Jones' Track Stud Sister
Trust me.....Tyren is far from entitled in terms of work ethic.

Was about to say this BBD he moved into the district since his dad wanted a HS that ran the ball
TY for setting everyone straight man
I'm excited to see Tyren and I have a feeling he will get a lot more snaps in the rotation later in games than everyone expects this year

I am more excited about Jones than the other 3 freshmen backs.

Tyren Jones is 5-9 205. How does he not fit the mold of the range of size Alabama has adequately used since 2007?

Scary thing is he has great catching ability already and the quickest feet I've seen in a back outta HS in a long time, the jump cut the juke etc
I will continue to believe if he had stayed in La and never moved he would've been a 5* and one of the top RBs in the country (he was originally from Louisiana, moved I believe due to Katrina)

He would have been 9 or 10 years old during Katrina.

I know his original move to Georgia from Louisiana was when he was 10 during Katrina to the ATL Metro area and Lassitter HS, but LHS ran a spread offense so the fam moved down the road to Walton High School
I believe coaches get the kids a little more exposure and coaches at colleges scour La more as well, I believe Tyren was vastly underrated as a RB
