Pruitt seems more concerned about Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama than he does his home turf.

Can't be possible... I was told by UT fans that the state's population and their bluechip talent numbers were growing so fast that they would no longer be reliant on getting significant chunks of talent from out of state...

Our staff has not been high on very many Tennessee prospects this year. It is strange that there is a large discrepancy on some of these kids from 24/7 to rivals.
We are still recruiting Norton and Hampton and are recruiting Tymon Mitchell and a couple of other kids in the state hard.
I'm fine with taking Wanya, Crouch, Wright, Bogle and a bunch of kids from Alabama, NC, and Georgia.

3/4 if those aren’t even committed to UT yet lol. I wouldn’t doubt Pruitt’s evaluations but sounds like you’re counting your chickens

Not high on a lot of these guys. Obviously there are a few (Norton, Patterson) that we obviously want bad and are going to still chase. I trust Pruitts talent evaluation. Also helps that hes going after guys all over the country and starting to get some.
Butch Jones was pretty great at recruiting TN, look how well that turned out for us.

Where is Trey Knox at with you guys? 247 has it down to both of us and Ohio State.

When you look at their Top 20 it gets even worse.
But they will tell you it's not important this year ... they are planning on cleaning-up in state next year.
They will tell you.
Amyways, the state of Tennessee is starting to turn out some talent as their population continues to grow. Now is the time to get in there and start building relationships. Actually, the time was two years ago but .... we'll see how Pruitt does in-state as time goes on. He should do well from Nashville and east of there over the next few years.

I don't really think that is fair, Butch didn't fail because of the talent.

As a Nashville resident and someone who played high school football here in the state, football here just isn't that great. Of course there are a lot recruits that end up being great football players in college/NFL, but its easy for recruits to stand out here. Maybe Pruitt sees that and its why he focuses his recruiting efforts elsewhere. Look at JaCoby Stevens that LSU got last year from Middle TN. 5 Star. Everyone wanted him. He gets to LSU and I don't think he has even cracked the 2 deep depth chart. Also, Memphis is so much closer to other SEC schools. Most people there grow up Ole Miss/Arky/Bama fans. Memphis isn't Vols country.

If he committed today, he'd be committing to Arkansas. But recently, we started giving him a lot more attention, so we still have a good shot, but we aren't taking more than 2 receivers this cycle I don't think, and that's a big factor in how hard we pursue.
Ohio State is a non factor as of right now.

There are 5-6 guys we really like this cycle. The rest are either meh or not interested in Tennessee.
Obviously we wanted some guys that committed elsewhere,
Norton- Pretty much was going to Bama or UGA, we never had much of a chance here.
Hampton- Has been committed to LSU forever, no chance.
Patterson- Kinda surprised he pulled the trigger on Ohio State, thought he was a Bama or Vol lock.
Wilhoit- Was pissed when asked him to camp. I'm not as high on him as most people are.
Washington- I know Pruitt wanted him, but same story as Wilhoit, Pruitt wanted to see him at camp and his father felt insulted.
We're still pursuing Patterson, Hampton (although I think we're moving on very soon because we may have already gotten silents from Burrell, Fields, and 2 others that I don't want to mention, yet, and Chad Simmons seems to think we also get McCullough), and even Norton to some degree.
Our top instate targets outside of those 3 are
Kristian Williams
Elijah Simmons
Cormontae Hamilton
Melvin McBride
Trey Knox
In that order, imo.
Lyle burned a lot of bridges in Tennessee high schools over the last 2 years by flat out lying to kids and processing kids who committed early at the last minute.
Those relationships have to be rebuilt, and Pruitt has made it abundantly clear that just because you're a highly rated recruit in Tennessee does not mean you are guaranteed a spot or a committable offer. And Pruitt certainly isn't gonna hold a spot for a someone who doesn't show they really want to play here.

Tymon Mitchell has to be in that group. Maybe at the top.

So...a guy who has been on the job for 6 months hasn't been able to flip guys that already weren't coming to UT? I'm shocked.

Nah, Simmons and Williams are who we want. Don't be shocked if Ladarius Cox decommits soon. There's a JUCO DT that is visiting on July 28th, he's an absolute monster. If we take 3 DTs, and I think we will, it'll be Simmons, Williams and that JUCO. If we take 4, Middleton will stay committed.

I will never understand why a kid or his parents get insulted when a school says they'd like to see what you bring to the table in person. The good ones see it as an opportunity...
And, Pruitt wasn't recruiting Washington when he was at Bama, gotta ask yourself why not?
If Bama and Georgia didn't go after him hard, why would we want him?

I like both Simmons and Williams but don't mistake Mitchell's recruitment being quiet for us not being interested. If he goes elsewhere its because we missed on him.
