So you admit UGAs recruiting hasn't been up to par? I

Yeah, mainly on the defensive side the last few years. Our defensive staff was seriously deficient in that regard. Grantham only recruited 1-2 primary targets per year. Olivadotti really only evaluated, and Lakatos was generally pretty worthless (not a gifted recruiter and had some health problems). That pretty much left Garner/Wilson and our offensive staff to recruit our defensive players. That can only be so effective.

Yeah I was talking about the current staff.

Terrible recruiter. However, he develops talent surprisingly well. Also, when kids arrive on campus, he is very good at getting them to buy into what he is trying to do. That is equally important as getting highly talented players in a program IMO. Half the coaches can get the 4 and 5* players, but can they get them to believe in the programs ultimate goal?

UGA needs to figure out OL recruiting too. If Pruitt kills it y'all move up but to this point he hasn't signed. A class so can't include him

Hard to gauge his true effect when every team he recruited for was NC

Florida got 0/10 of their top 10 player. So no, they don't do better in-state.

Let's just assume that Florida and GA have equal talent to work with.

Florida has to compete with FSU, UCF, and USF (I know they're not on the same level as the other 2) for their top in-state guys. UGA only really has to compete with Ga Tech, and they're not really that good. Additionally, i'd say the teams that recruit GA are also recruting FL (and vice versa), and UGA and UF cross recruit each other's states. So it's hard to compare.

Does it really matter? I would has a sadz if AU were the only "SEC power" who didn't get a BCS Championship, much less even get a shot at it, too.

But he isn't better than Sumlin. Sorry. And he definitely isn't better than Les.

You give Les and Sulmlin a team that has gone 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, 5-7, hasn't been in the SECC game since 07, hasn't won it since '98, and hasn't won a bowl since 08, and I seriously doubt they pull in the class that Butch got.

It's all about perspective

I don't disagree with anything said, and believe 2-5 is interchangeable. I do struggle putting Butch at #2 with such a small sample size. The guy can recruit, but I think others have proven they can do it year in and year out.

We are doing better in that regard. Signed 3 4* prospects in 2014 and another high 3*.

I can agree with that

And we can all agree UGA does less with more better than anyone else

Considering teams aren't limited to their borders this is a silly statement.

No this I can agree with but I would think it's easy to compare.

I'm curious why small sample size hurts stoops but not Jones

I truly feel UK's Vince Marrow is probably one of the best recruiters in the country. It's not nearly as difficult to get recruits to buy in when you're a perennial top program or even one with a history. What Stoops and Co. has done is pretty damn impressive.

IMO has more to do with Texas sucking wind. But they are trending up..

Not #2 in the SEC IMO 5 is about right.

sure its helped, but its far from the main reason. You seem to be forgetting what we are doing to OU.

we had the
3rd best class this year and could very well have the top class next year. 5 is low to me

Right. Stoops and his land thieves used to cherry pick Dallas and north texas blue chippers year in an d out. Sumlin has almost been solely responsible for changing their strategy up to fight for 1st but go hard for the 2nd tier Texans, and focus more going national--particularly Pac-12 country. They'll still get good players but it's no walk in the park anymore.

Sumlin may not be the top dog in the SEC but is defiantly on the rise.
