Bama online right now makes it sound like Grubb/DeBoer liked Austin Mack more - saying they felt deep conviction for Mack.

I can't believe they hired a guy with No SEC ties. I know they say that many people in the program didn't see this coming, but I find it hard to believe that Bama didn't see the writing on the wall here. He was 72 and complained about Texas A&M and NIL a few years back remember? He was clearly not able to give the same amount of time, but Bama still seemed woefully unprepared when it finally happened.

I am not upset as I expected this at some point and the time is now. I have not melted once over it and ready to move forward. The only thing I have learned is how many fans that are either to young to remember before the Saban hire or only became fans once he was hired.

Hopefully they all melt the way off to another team.

How do you prepare to start a new chapter when someone like Saban retires? I mean look at life after Bear. It will never be the same and now with the portal and NIL even if Saban was still here the playing field was already opening up for more teams to compete with UA. Days of stocking up on talent has long passed.

The positive now with free agency any HC has a chance to compete.

It could be but a lot of deflection going as well. I have to believe it was mutual to some extent with both parties. Sayin just now leaving makes me believe him and his family spoke with DeBoer and after that both parties decided to depart.

Maybe Mack was brought in because DeBoer knew Saying was leaving or maybe DeBoer already had plans to bring in Mack and spoke with Sayin about it to let him know which triggered Sayin to the portal. I do not believe DeBoer did not want Saying but wanted to have a solid QB room to choose from..

Sayin is also 6'1. Mack is 6'6. DeBoer has also already reached out to 2025 Tennessee QB commit George MacIntyre who is 6'5.5. He seems to like the taller QBs so maybe Sayin is just not a good fit for what DeBoer wants to do.

Yeah I am buying that it’s not deflection- like you said - DeBoer/Grubbs seem to have a type - and Sayin ain’t it.

I also think Sayin was a little overrated. Todd Monken/UGA liked UGA commit Ryan Puglisi better than Sayin.

Yeah and Bama fans are saying DeBoer told Sayin to leave

If so, its piss poor QB management. Mack is a true freshman and you don’t push out the QB you just brought in, especially when he was the top prospect in the nation.

I’m not a fan of kids jumping ship when it happens to LSU

But the reality is that coaches can leave at any time, so players should be able to as well. Any student can transfer colleges any given year, so why should it be any different with a student athlete?

As long as the NIL contract covers these types of things, I have no issue with it in the grand scheme

I will say limiting the number of transfers is probably for the best. It’d force kids to consider their future with the team instead of just taking the highest bidder. That’s a good life lesson.

Read on a Bama board that this was more a coaching decision than a kid wanting to leave.

Apparently DeBoer didn’t want Sayin’

Saw another saying Sayin was scared of competition because DeBoar brought in some 4 star Washington quarterback Yeah I'm sure it was that.

Not this way, that is for sure. It may turn out okay. but it’s pretty much worse case scenario right now. With each player that leaves, the next gets that much closer to making the jump also..

What should have happened?
Saban should have taken some time off and then held Spring practice. If he still wanted to be done come July, then he hands the keys to the OC or DC or an analyst brought in for this purpose and Alabama gets to play in 2024 without Saban but with the same players.. if they suck you fire them all and hire DeBoner or someone like him. If it works, then there isn’t much drop off. See Riley at OU. See Day at OSU.

Other Options
Hire Lane
Hire Steele
Hire TRob
Hire someone with ties to Alabama and Saban
Hire BOB - maybe

Bottom line: This is ugly and is about to get a lot worse if DeBoner doesn’t stop the bleeding.

Uhm, you're one of the many rational Bama fans, however, as you know, your fan base overall, is literally insane with passion.

Not metaphorically, not figuratively, not symbolically but literally insane.

You'll be OK in 5 or 6 years after you hire Coach 3.

Aren't you the same fanbase who ran off THREE title winning coaches? That kind of insane?

Might not be going to OSU anymore. They have to "Evaluate their quarterback room" AKA see who they should/could run off to bring Sayin in.

Sayin reached out to LSU but LSU seemingly told him no seeing as they have Underwood in the next class. Turning down the number 1 quarterback in America one year after having our second heisman winning quarterback in 5 years.... You tell me that in 2014 and I don't know what I'd do

I love watching Bama implode but the reality is that we will all be on the other end of this at some point unless things change.

I actually feel bad for Milroe. Guy was primed for a big year next season before Saban retiring.

Right. The world is insane right now. OSU brought in a 5* QB in this class, and has their guy in 2025 as well. He's likely a 5*. But do you say no to Sayin if you don't love your 2nd and 3rd year guys? Who the hell knows
