Kendall Milton, a 247Sports Composite five-star running back prospect, will announce his college decision Monday (July 29) on CBS HQ at 8 p.m. (EST). Finalists for the Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan standout include Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State.
The 6-foot-1 1/2, 220-pound Milton took official visits to each of his top schools in the summer after seeing them all in the spring. Earlier this month at The Opening Finals, Milton spoke with 247Sports’ Greg Biggins about what stands our regarding each contender.
Alabama- “I like Coach (Charles) Huff (RB coach) a lot, he has a great resume. He coached Saquon Barkley at Penn State and has a lot of experience coaching running backs. They have been recruiting me hard for awhile now and with Bama, they have such a great winning tradition and you know you’re going to win a lot of games and get developed.”
Georgia- “I like their tradition for not only producing great running backs in college but then getting those guys out to the NFL and having a lot of success there. Dell McGee is a great RB coach and his resume speaks for itself. He’s known as one of the best RB coaches around and we have a great relationship. I want to go where I can get developed and I know that would be a great fit.”
LSU- “I like Coach (Tommie) Robinson a lot and I have a great connection with the coaching staff. I’ve actually known Coach (Ed) Orgeron since I was in 4th grade when he was at USC and I was going to their camps. I trust the staff and I love the campus and the stadium. I know some of the players on the team and I talk with Elias Ricks all the time about LSU so there’s a lot of plusses for sure.”
Ohio State- “I like Coach (Ryan) Day a lot and believe in his vision for building the program. I have a great relationship with all the RB coaches but I probably talk with Tony Alford (RB coach) more than anyone. We have a good connection and I like Ohio State’s style of play and how they run the football.”
247Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman wrote the evaluation on Milton for our site, a prospect we’ve compared to Melvin Gordon and James Conner.
“Bigger back who runs with a unique blend of power, speed and balance,” Huffman said. “Shows more shiftiness than you’d expect from a back his size. His balance is top-notch. Can take a hit and not lose his base and gains significant yards after contact. Can run through holes and sees them before they open. Can hit the hole and go. Good but not great receiver out of the backfield. Has a tendency to run upright on occasion when there is traffic. Projects as immediate Power 5 starter and projects as first-round NFL draft choice.”

I'm hearing from my sources Northern Illinois could be a late player for his commitment but UGA remains high on Milton's list. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Dawgs stay with a loaded backfield. Going to be a great pickup

I’m hearing we’re just a hat on the table and he’s all Northern Illinois.

Love Tank. As highly s people think of him, I think he's actually underrated.

From what I’ve read Georgia is a real contender. Think they’d just back out?

Even if Evans committed today, that’s be an Emery recruitment all over again where we constantly hve to get him back to Athens to keep him onboard.
Won’t have that problem with Bigsby

And just like John Emery, Evans will end up at LSU.
We’re both getting good ones

Congrats.
Hopefully mUSChamp gets Tank after this.
We’ll happily take the leftovers. You can’t sign’em all.

I think Tank may go to Auburn if he doesn’t come here. Which will chap my arse if he ends up another Ronnie Brown

At this point, are any fans in here from other teams thinking they have a shot at Milton tonight? Haven't heard any lately.
OSU?
Bama?
LSU?

On that list, maybe Bama... OSU had moved on to Bijan Robinson (though that apparently did not pan out well for them). LSU seemingly is staying in the Zach Evans lottery for now. Bama got a visit from Milton on the last tour of the SEC and in theory would probably be the closest competition, but their mods have been stating UGA leads for some time now... It would be a pretty big surprise if Milton elected to commit elsewhere at this point... Though, stranger things have certainly happened in recruiting before.
