There's nothing wrong with taking projects. Like I said in my first post, he can be good given time. And as long as McCarron and Ely are there, he will have time.

And it's not like he was your coaches' first choice. More like 4th or 5th

McElroy was a project. If all of our projects win 24 games in 2 years, that's fine with me.

Gmac might be the exception to the rule. To think everybody that comes from Gmacs HS ratings wlil do what he does is overly optimistic. In many games I felt like we won in spite on Gmacs performance. In 2010, Gmac was working with a great oline, two top first rounders at RB(one Heisman), and a 1st rounder at WR with a more than supportive cast.

God do I love the Ds we have at UA

Amm and gatordmb are probably the top 2 people on this site that always give unbiased opinions of recruits. They put their time in studying the recruits and they show no homerism when giving their opinions.

This. Also, ideally, Ely or Morris will never start a game at UA. Ideally, we wouldve built our qb depth better than we have, but hopefully we can sign someone good this year and Moss next year. If that happens, then I don't think Ely or Morris will ever start.

Bama and AU have both offered the same QBs for the most part

I dont think Bama offered any of the QBs on the Auburn roster

A little early to be pulling the plug on Morris. How bout we at least wait til he has his first practice?

I have no doubt Ely and Morris aren't ready for primetime right now, but let's not underestimate what our coaches can do with 2 years to develop them.

I think AMM AU was talking about the quarterbacks in this class, not in the past. We were both looking at different types of quarterbacks then, not so much now.

I was referring to the 2013 class. Loeffler and Nussmeier seem to have similar targets

I'm not pulling the plug on him. I'm saying that in a perfect world, we'll bring in a player with more talent who will pass him. It's not like with, say, a Jerrell Harris where he's supremely talented and we're just waiting for it to click. Morris has limitation. It's like bringing in Mike Marrow. We brought in Mike Marrow hoping he'd find a role or maybe develop into something. We didn't necessarily expect him to start because we expected to sign better guys at the position. Plus, you have to think that a development project who wasn't the current offensive coordinators pick probably will get passed in the 2 years before there is another competition.

Well we had good depth till Phil left. We had a starter and prob a good one for the next 3 years. Its hard to sell a big time recruit when he prob wont play until 4 years later.

I just dont believe that out of all of the QBs that are out there we took Morris and he is that much of a project. And yes I said took Morris. I know we missed out on some higher rated guys but im pretty sure there were some guys that were rated high by the "experts" that we didnt go after. Im guessing we didnt go after them because our coaching staff saw something in Morris that they like.

I have seen classes where the best qb was some 2-3star hardly anybody wanted.

Matt Leinart, Aaron Rodgers, Greg McElroy, the list goes on....

I see what you're saying Sandkhan. I don't totally disagree but I could point to just as many examples of prospects that became very good college players even though they would've been considered projects coming out of high school. I'm sure there were many people who thought that ideally Rashad Johnson, William Vlachos, Chavis Williams, Vinnie Sunseri would not start because we recruited over them in subsequent classes. Maybe Morris will be like Marrow, maybe he will be like Rashad. Why assume he's one or the other at this point?

IMO, the ideal would be Ely and/or Morris developing into a solid starters allowing any 5* stud QBs we recruit in subsequent classes to learn and mature as back-ups for a couple of years before they are needed to start.

Aaron Rodgers isn't a National Championship winning QB?

Technically McElroy is the only one with a National Championship
